There has been a lot of hype about Avengers: Doomsday in the movie world, and that's understandable given the scope of what we're about to witness. The Marvel Cinematic Universe outing is destined to be one of the biggest movies of next - quite possibly the biggest - and that's a win that the Marvel Studios franchise needs after a number of misfires in recent years.

The Multiverse Saga hasn't had a smooth run of things, especially when compared to the previous Infinity Saga, but it can ensure that the storyline wraps up on a high note. After all, there are two Avengers movies coming and Robert Downey Jr. is returning too, so there is a lot to be excited about.

The studio has also been streamlining its release schedule, potentially cutting projects that are no longer viable and investing in ones that it knows will generate a lot of exitement and buzz. The good news is that even the characters who have had some of their projects reportedly cancelled can still return in some capacity. That appears to be the case here, as Marvel doesn't seem to be moving away from one important character in spite of their planned solo project being scrapped.

Monica Rambeau will reportedly appear in Avengers: Doomsday with a big storyline

It sounds like that post-credits scene from The Marvels could still play a major role in Avengers: Doomsday as originally planned. According to veteran Marvel insider Alex Perez (via a Q&A with fans published by The Cosmic Circus), Monica Rambeau is indeed set to be involved in Avengers: Doomsday in a big way. When responding to a question about which character out of Monica, Thor, Magneto, and Cyclops would have the biggest roles in the upcoming film, he responded:

"Out of all 4, Monica’s got the bigger role storywise, but Thor would show up more if that makes sense."

This not only suggests that the film will follow-up from that aforementioned post-credits scene (which went on to become one of the most pivotal in the Multiverse Saga) it also seems to suggest that Teyonah Parris will appear in the movie and reprise her role as Monica. As of yet, she is not yet confirmed to appear, as Marvel Studios previously released a cast list of 25+ actors that will appear the movie and her name was not on it.

If this report turns out to be true, this is great news - not just for the MCU's decision to carry on the storyline set forth in that post-credits scene but for the future of the Monica Rambeau character. One of the most enjoyable regular additions to the MCU in the Multiverse Saga (a younger version of the character previously appeared in 2019's Captain Marvel, played by Akira Akbar), Parris played the role in both WandaVision and The Marvels. While the first project was both commercially and critically successful, the second was Marvel's first ever flop at the box office - which was a major blow considering the first Captain Marvel movie made over $1 billion.

It was subsequently reported that a planned spinoff series set to focus on Monica was cancelled by Marvel Studios as part of the move away from riskier projects. And this left it unclear as to whether we would see the character on our screens again. Any potential absence from Monica would have been a problematic decision given how great a character she is, but to do so when she was pulled into an alternate earth with no way home would have been extremely upsetting.

Parris' omission from the announced Avengers: Doomsday cast also raised some eyebrows, particularly because Kelsey Grammer was among the confirmed cast members. The X-Men legend reprised his role as Beast in that post-credits scene, greeting Monica when she awoke on a new world. It's expected that the X-Men of this world will be the version of the X-Men that ultimately appear in Avengers: Doomsday so it wouldn't have been right to carry on the story of this earth without bringing Monica back into the fray too.

Needless to say, it's great to hear that Monica could still be involved in Avengers: Doomsday. Not only is the character too important to the Multiverse Saga to just cast aside, audiences deserve to see her find her way back to her own earth, resolving that ending of The Marvels once and for all.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in movie theaters on December 18, 2026.
