Over three years ago, the Marvel Cinematic Universe made history by uniting all three live-action iterations of Spider-Man on the big screen during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Since then, anticipation has been at an all-time high for its follow-up to deliver an even more engaging story and more creative action scenes. Fortunately, with Destin Daniel Cretton joining the movie as director, we know the "action" aspect will be covered. After all, he also helmed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which has perhaps the best action scenes in any MCU movie, alongside Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But what about the story? Well, that part has been surrounded in mystery because no official announcements about the film were made... until now.

Sony attended CinemaCon 2025 and made a huge impression by revealing the release date and first look at Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. But as if that wasn't enough, director Destin Daniel Cretton and Tom Holland also took over the stage to talk about the wall-crawler's upcoming movie. While not too many details were revealed (which makes sense, considering filming hasn't even begun at the time of writing this), we finally have a title, and it might give us an idea of what to expect once it finally releases.

Spider-Man 4 will be titled Brand New Day

It was heavily speculated for a lot of time, and now it's official. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the fourth entry in Tom Holland's arachnid saga, breaking the MCU tradition of including the word "home" in the titles. Furthermore, our first look at the logo was revealed, and it reiterates that the movie will be released on Jul. 31, 2026.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton also revealed that Spider-Man 4: Brand New Day will be "a ride that we haven't really seen before". Furthermore, Tom Holland said audiences are about to witness a new beginning for Peter Parker (explaining why the "Homecoming" saga came to an end). It's clear the movie will be a completely new chapter for the wall-crawler — an idea that's only reinforced when we take a look at the source material.

The Brand New Day comic book storyline takes place after Peter made a deal with a literal devil, Mephisto, to save Aunt May's life in exchange of undoing his marriage with M.J. Oh, and we should also remember that, by this point, Spidey's identity was revealed to the whole world thanks to the events of Civil War (though that storyline was also undone in Brand New Day). With that in mind, it's easy to see that the set-up for the live-action adaptation is nearly identical, as Peter's relationship with M.J. is basically "undone" now that the whole world has forgotten he even existed. On that same page, nobody knows Spidey's secret identity anymore after Mysterio revealed it during the events of Far From Home. So it's easy to see that the wall-crawler will have a brand new beginning or... a brand new day, if you will.

The Brand New Day comic book arc "officially" encompasses issues 546 through 564 and features many different villains. However, the series is widely known for featuring the debut of Mr. Negative — a beloved Spidey character who recently stole the spotlight in the Marvel's Spider-Man video game saga and who was also reported to be the movie's main antagonist back in February. So now the chances of him appearing in a live-action project are higher than ever.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will likely shape up to be a street-level movie, contrary to the popular belief that it would heavily feature the multiverse. Granted, that's not to say the multiverse will be ignored at all (especially considering the movie will be released after Avengers: Doomsday). However, it appears that parallel realities and variants won't be the main center of attention, as opposed to how it all played out in No Way Home. After all, the Brand New Day comic book storyline is all about going back to basics.

In it, we see how Peter struggles to find a new place because he has no money. As a result, he's forced to take pictures of Spidey once again for the Daily Bugle. His romantic life is a complete mess after Mary Jane forgets ever marrying him and believes the two simply broke at some point. Finally, he believes that his best friend, Harry Osborn, turned into a supervillain yet again (though it was eventually proven that wasn't the case).

It contains all the elements of a classic Spidey story. So if the title is anything to go by, it appears Marvel will go back to basics with the character on the big screen as well, and we couldn't be any more excited. Fortunately, it won't be long before we finally watch the highly anticipated movie for ourselves.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on on Jul. 31, 2026.
