Ever since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released, Sony has remained tight-lipped about its follow-up, other than to announce its indefinite delay. Just when excitement was at an all-time high to figure out how Miles Morales' trilogy would conclude, we were hit with a brick wall that seemed to have no end. There were no updates regarding Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse for many months, even when the movie was initially supposed to be released in March 2024. Rumors even indicated that a big creative reboot struck the project, and its future was heavily put into question. But just when silence was eating us alive, a big announcement finally came our way.
Sony attended CinemaCon 2025 to give attendees a glimpse into its most anticipated movies. There were high expectations for the studio to showcase anything Spider-Man-related, and they delivered big time. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse completely stole the spotlight, as producer Christopher Miller took over the stage to officially announce a release date.
It's nearly time to dive into the multiverse once again alongside Miles, Gwen, Peter, and countless other Spidey variants, and we couldn't be any more excited.

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will release on June 4 2027
It's time to mark our calendars, as Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will hit the big screen on June 4, 2027. On the downside, we still have a long way to go until we finally see how Miles deals with the Spot's new powers and Miguel's plan to "save" the multiverse. On the upside: animators won't likely suffer from crunch, as it happened during the production of Across the Spider-Verse, and 2026 is already stacked with Spider-Man projects that will make the wait feel shorter.
Spider-Man 4, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, and Avengers: Doomsday (which will reportedly feature Peter Parker) will all be released next year. So it's nice to know 2027 will also feature a Spidey project to look forward to. And speaking of Spidey's animated adventures, it was also revealed that Beyond the Spider-Verse takes place "the second Across the Spider-Verse ends". Furthermore, it will feature new animation techniques, and the movie will be bigger than its predecessors (even when that seems like a monumental task considering that one Across the Spider-Verse chase sequence where a Spidey T-Rex was involved)
The Spider-Verse saga will be nearly a decade in the making. The adventure began back in 2018 and taught us that anyone can be under the Spider-Man mask before making us realize the danger of undoing a canon event. The animated movies introduced us to many iconic web-slinger variants, one of which was Nicholas Cage's Spider-Man Noir, who's now getting his own live-action series. It has been a big ride that will finally see its culmination nine years later. We've grown with these characters, so, hopefully, the last chapter in the franchise does them justice.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse footage was shown behind closed doors
Not only did we get the official release date for Beyond the Spider-Verse, but the first-ever stills for the movie were released, and they are simply jaw-dropping:

Furthermore, the first-ever footage for the movie was also released. Unfortunately, only does who attended CinemaCon were able to see it. On the bright side, we have an idea of how it all panned out. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peter B Parker, Miles Morales, and Gwen Stacy were shown confronting a "supersized" version of the Spot. Furthermore, DiscussingFilm reports that Miles will also fight the Prowler (likely that of the new universe his stuck in) before going on an adventure with him.
While it's unfortunate that the footage wasn't published online for everyone to see, it's just a matter of time before Sony finally starts to build anticipation by releasing an official trailer. Meanwhile, these announcements are an absolutely welcome break from the silence that both Sony and Marvel had regarding the movie. Miles is finally back, and we can't wait to see what his upcoming adventure will have in store.
