Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse star gives shocking update on film's status
By Cody Schultz
At this point, we’re starting to wonder whether it’ll be Tom Holland’s Spider-Man who manages to make his way back to the big screen before Miles Morales swings back into theaters for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
The closing chapter in Sony’s Oscar-winning animated films was originally slated to open in theaters on March 29, 2024; however, Sony was forced to pull the film from its release schedule in July 2023. In the time since the movie has been pulled from the schedule, there have been varying reports about the status of the film. Some sources have reported the movie is coming along nicely, while others have painted more disappointing pictures with reports that the film has undergone severe retooling.
Through it all, Sony has been keeping its cards close to its chest with little information revealed about the status of the film; however, one of the film’s stars has broken their silence on the film’s standings… and it’s not a good update.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse star reveals he hasn’t filmed lines yet
In a new interview with ScreenRant promoting Prime Video’s upcoming film Unstoppable, actor Jharrel Jerome offered up a truly disappointing update on the status of Beyond the Spider-Verse.
When asked about the status of the film, which he’ll be returning to reprise his role as Miles G. Morales, Jerome made it clear that he’s just as in the dark as the fans when it comes to the status of teh film. In fact, he’s not even begun filming lines for the film.
“I haven't [started voice recordings], but I also can't really say so much more because, you know, that's such a tight-knit ship. I don't even know much. I'm as much in the dark as you, but I'm excited to get back into it and see what they're thinking, especially involving my character. That was such a badass twist to the last one.”
While Jerome might not have offered up much, his lack of an update spoke volumes as it’s not at all promising. The fact that he hasn’t even recorded lines for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse seems to suggest the film is nowhere close to being completed which suggests we have a long way to go before Miles Morales swings back into the theaters for the final chapter in his story.
If Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is unable to make a 2025 release, which is looking incredibly likely, we imagine Sony could potentially choose to hold the film for 2027. This is because Sony has yet to release two Spider-Man-led films in the same calendar year and 2026 is set to bring the next chapter in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise.
Still, there is hope that Sony might finally break tradition if Beyond the Spider-Verse isn’t able to make it into theaters for a 2025 release, but the odds of the movie being ready to drop next year aren’t looking good.
