Being a hero is no easy feat, and nobody knows it better than Spider-Man himself. The friendly neighborhood hero has lost his parents, Uncle Ben, and Gwen Stacy, and he also had to watch as many of his close friends turned into supervillains. Despite this, Peter Parker always stands up and fights again, no matter how dire the situation may seem. Unfortunately, his most recent battle is completely uphill, and there's no clear escape in sight.

Despite losing nearly everyone who's close to him, Peter has always been able to count on Aunt May. Although she doesn't know her nephew's secret and doesn't understand why Peter bails out of places all the time, she's always tried to be there for him. However, this all came to an end when May's memories of Peter were completely wiped out. Now, she sees him as almost a complete stranger, and Spider-Man couldn't find a solution to the problem.

Spider-Man wasn't able to restore Aunt May's memories

If you aren't up to date on the latest Marvel comics, there's one thing you should know: There's a new villain in town, and he is called Ravage. But behind the black suit and the memory-altering powers lies Cormac Crane, the biological son of Aunt May and Ben Parker.

See, when May gave birth to Cormac, there was a switch-up at the hospital, and she was told her newborn died. Instead, Cormac was raised by a completely different family, and it wasn't until recently that he found out that his entire life was supposed to be different, and it was all thanks to a serial killer called Torment—you know, just a typical day in the Marvel Universe.

Doing a little background check, Cormac found out everything regarding the Parkers' story. He knows Peter is Spider-Man and that Aunt May is unaware of her nephew's secret. Moreover, Cormac also learned that Ben Parker died, in part, due to Peter's irresponsibility. As a result, Crane decided to enter May's life, reveal to her that he's her biological son, and slowly make her drift apart from Peter. Eventually, he used his powers to wipe out every memory May had of Peter. While she still knows Peter is her nephew, she can't remember raising him as her own son.

During the latest issue of The Amazing Spider-Man, Peter couldn't take it any longer and went to look for Cormac at his home. The wall-crawler didn't exactly have a plan. He was simply willing to beat Ravage until the villain restored Aunt May's memories. The two then fought for a long time, and Spidey even used his newfound ability, the Ultra Spider-Sense, to give Ravage the beating of his life. Even then, the villain refused to give in to Peter's wishes. So despite everything, the wall-crawler lost.

Spider-Man and Ravage found themselves at a stalemate. Aunt May's memories weren't restored, but Ravage had no option but to back away and let May live her life without trying to control her all the time. Otherwise, Spidey would tell her the truth about her son.

Now, Peter's mission has shifted. He has admitted defeat since there's no way to restore May's memories (at least, not for the time being). Instead, he will start over and try to rebuild his relationship with his adoptive mother from scratch. Unfortunately, there's a big problem: Peter's interactions with May after her memory was erased haven't gone well, to say the least. May believes Peter is trying to keep her away from her biological son, which is true, even if she doesn't have the whole context.

As a result, there's a chance that the relationship between the two will never go back to "normal." But in a much more realistic sense, it is also possible that May's memories could eventually be restored after some issues. But for the time being, it seems Peter will actually try to grow closer to May, and it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

The Amazing Spider-Man (2025) No. 1003 will be released on Nov. 11, 2026.
