Ever since his uncle died, Peter Parker has made it his personal mission to prevent others from suffering the pain of losing someone close to them. Thus, Spider-Man was born, and the spectacular hero has kept the world safe for decades now. His unbreakable spirit has led him to do the impossible to save as many lives as he can, even if it means endangering himself on every single occasion. The wall-crawler has inspired countless along the way, and even the Venom symbiote tried to follow his example as revealed in All-New Venom No. 6:
"[My last thought was] What would Spider-Man do? He'd try. If there was the smallest chance of the slightest shred of the tiniest sliver of hope... he'd try. And if there was no hope at all, he'd try just the same."
But why is this important? Well, because the same hero who has gone out of his way multiple times to save the rest of the world might need to doom the entire symbiote race in order to "save the day". Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse (2025) No. 1 is here, and it pits a team of Spider-People from across the universe against a group of symbiotes and their hosts for survival. However, the stakes are higher than ever, as the outcome of this competition may forever change the course of the multiverse.
Spider-Verse Vs Venomverse may eradicate the symbiotes or the wall-crawlers
While the big "Spider-Verse" comic book events haven't been necessarily "well-received" lately, Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse (2025) is looking to undo that wrong. Things kick off with a trip down memory lane as readers revisit the origin stories of both Peter Parker and Eddie Brock (except, not the Eddie from Earth-616, but one from a parallel universe). Right away, we see the parallelisms between their stories and how they are two sides of the same coin. Even if they've been sworn enemies before, they also want to do good by others, which leads us to the main conflict of this tale.
The Great Web of Life and Destiny is an ever-growing construct that connects the Spider-Totems across all realities. Similarly, the hive mind transcends the barriers of the multiverse to connect all of the different symbiotes in existence. Unfortunately, both of these expanding "webs" have come to the conclusion that conflict between the Spiders and the symbiotes is inevitable, and it will eventually happen at the expense of countless lives.
To prevent such a catastrophic event from materializing, both constructs made a deal: They would each recruit a team of five "totems" or heroes, and pit them against each other in three different trials. If the symbiote team wins, then the Great Web of Life and Destiny will cease to be, and all the Spider-People will "be wiped from existence". But if the symbiotes lose, they will be the ones permanently erased, leaving millions of hosts without their other halves. No matter the outcome, death will come to take away an infinite number of names.
Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse (2025) No. 1 has an interesting premise with an even better execution. While most of the Spider-People are good-hearted heroes, you can see there's still room for some of them to be ruthless killing machines. On the contrary, the symbiotes may usually be pictured as the bad guys, yet Venom proves there's a lot of good in them as well. None of these teams really wants to eradicate the other, but neither is willing to doom its entire race. For the time being, both sides will need to do their best to succeed in the twisted web trials, but hopefully, they will find a way to co-exist with each other in the long run.
Spider-Verse Vs. Venomverse (2025) No. 2 will be released on June 18, 2025.
