Peter Parker is about to start a new chapter in the MCU, and an iconic Spider-Man character from comic book pages might join him for the ride.

Due to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker is at the lowest point of his life. His identity was completely erased from the face of the Earth, and everyone close to him is either dead or has forgotten spending time with him. Peter is, by all means, a ghost. Sometimes the genius teenager has to lose so that the wall-crawler can win, and that's exactly what will happen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Spidey will reach unprecedented heights in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, as revealed by its official synopsis: "Peter Parker is no more, but Spider-Man is at the top of his game keeping New York City safe." That means we're about to witness the friendly neighborhood hero crawl, swing, and fight like never before, even if the man behind the mask has to pay the price.

Fortunately, things will eventually turn around for Peter, as he could meet someone Spider-Man fans are very familiar with.

Gwen Stacy is hinted to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The wall-crawler's funny Valentine might come back to the big screen. Renowned insider Daniel Richtman revealed that Peter will still be in love with MJ during the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, even though she doesn't remember him. However, the infamous Parker luck could finally change for the better as Peter will have a "blonde neighbor" who will potentially become a love interest.

While no names were dropped, such a description is enough to make fans' spider-senses tingle. While Mary Jane is usually the "girl next door" in most Spider-Man stories, it seems the MCU will switch things up and give that role to Gwen Stacy. The timing of her potential introduction couldn't be better, as Peter is likely to be in college during the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and wouldn't you know it, but he met Gwen on his first day of college in the source material.

It was previously reported that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man would act as a blueprint for the future of Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU. Such a scoop turned out to be partially true, as the series shone the spotlight on villains like Scorpion and Tombstone, both of whom will finally make their live-action debuts in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Besides, many rumors suggest the symbiote will have a prominent role in Tom Holland's upcoming trilogy. Incidentally, the parasitic alien was also the main antagonist in the finale of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

The animated Disney+ series could very well foreshadow events to come in the MCU, and wouldn't you know it, but season 2 will feature the debut of Gwen Stacy's Ghost-Spider. Furthermore, Marvel seems keen on keeping Gwen at the top of our minds. She recently came back to life in the comic book world as Gwenpool and is a prominent character in the two Spider-Verse movies released so far. Could all of this effort be in the hopes of setting up her character's return in live-action? Maybe. Is this one big conspiracy theory that may not prove to be true? It's very likely.

Despite being shrouded in secrecy, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already shaping up to be a very stacked film. Villains like Scorpion, Tarantula, Boomerang, and Tombstone are officially confirmed to make an appearance, while rumors suggest The Hand, Ramrod, and 8-Ball will also wreak havoc in New York. Additionally, the Punisher and the Hulk will join the wall-crawler in his upcoming adventure, and if that wasn't enough, Yelena Belova is rumored to make an appearance as well. That's without taking into account Sadie Sink's character, who is heavily theorized to be Jean Grey.

Sony cut Shailene Woodley's Mary Jane from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 because of the large number of characters featured in the film, and even then, the results weren't the best. With that in mind, chances are that Brand New Day will also refrain from setting up a potential love interest for Peter Parker's future if the superpowered teenager already has a lot to deal with. But who knows? Maybe a small cameo won't hurt.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 31, 2026.
