Star Trek: Strange New Worlds may have been off-screen for some time now, but it's officially back. The beloved Paramount Plus series is back for its fourth season, which officially kicked off recently. In case you didn't know, the show is centered around Captain Christopher Pike and the crew of the USS Enterprise as they visit strange new worlds (as the title suggests). However, while this is one of the newer Star Trek projects, there's a catch.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds takes place before Star Trek: The Original Series. This is why you’ll see a younger and less experienced Captain James T. Kirk, Nyota Uhura, and Spock. That means you'll be able to see the events that mold the characters into the legends they later become.

Things to remember for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4
The most important thing to remember heading into Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 is that Captain Christoper Pike is dealing with a forbidding prophecy. Before the season started, Pike was shown future events where he saves lives, but is left unable to speak and confined to a wheelchair thanks to delta ray radiation. In season 1, he thinks he’s found a way to save himself and other lives. Sadly, this leads to a future where Starfleet never reaches its potential and causes a war that would lead to even more deaths.
During the season 3 finale, Captain Pike and his partner, Captain Marie Batel, live a full life. Since he isn’t injured from the radiation accident, Pike and Batel continue their careers with Starfleet, have a daughter and grandkids, and everyone lives happily ever after. Unfortunately, this wasn’t real. It was Captain Batel’s last gift to Pike before she sacrificed herself to keep the Vezda imprisoned.

In that same episode, Spock and Captain James T. Kirk use the Vulcan mind meld to make shots from their individual ships that should have been impossible. The result of the mind meld lasts longer than the mission, leading to them having a better understanding of each other, and this is clearly the start of their ongoing friendship. Look for this to be a storyline within the upcoming two seasons of Strange New Worlds.
Spock and La'an Noonien-Singh shared a kiss during season 3. At the end of the finale, it’s clear that their relationship continues to grow. The sad part is that if you’re familiar with the original show, then you know that this doesn’t last. That means, at some point before the series finale, Spock and La’An’s relationship will end. How that happens remains to be seen, but it will be reported on Bam Smack Pow.
