The aura of Stranger Things is strong this Christmas. Let's be honest, the aura of Stranger Things has been strong since the first season premiered all the way back in 2016, but it's truer than ever this holiday season as Netflix continues to unveil new chapters of the fifth and final season.
After a Thanksgiving Volume 1 release set the stage for a game-changer of a final season, Volume 2 ramped up the revelations on Christmas Day itself! Three more large-scale episodes immersed fans in the mythology of the Upside Down like never before, thrilling them with big reveals, beautiful moments, and bloody brilliant action.
But it's not over yet! There is one more episode left of the series, and you can bet it's going to be the biggest Stranger Things episode in history. Here's when you can expect it to premiere.
Stranger Things 5 finale has a New Year's Eve release date
Stranger Things season 5 episode 8 will stream on Netflix on Wednesday, December 31, at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT. The episode, titled "The Rightside Up", is not just the season 5 finale but the series finale, meaning that it will be the last ever episode of the show. And given the series' track record, you can bet that it's going to be going very big before it goes home. It also has a runtime of 2 hours and 8 minutes, so it's long!
As you can see by its release times, it will have the same release format of Volumes 1 and 2, so whatever time those premiered for you in your time zone, it will premiere at the same time here. But, if you do happen to live in the US, Netflix isn't the only place that you can find it. Yes, the finale of Stranger Things will be getting a limited theatrical release in select theaters. And yes, it will premiere on the big screen at the exact same time that it premieres on the small one.

The six day wait between Volume 2 and the Finale is much shorter than the previous one. After the game-changing Volume 2 cliffhanger, fans had to wait just under a month for Volume 2. It certainly encouraged a month-long discussion about where the season could go next, generating a lot of buzz with plenty of fan theories about Will Byers' powers / abilities, the truth about the Upside Down and Vecna's new look. And you can bet that the shorter break will generate even more.
It's undoubtedly going to be the end of an era when Stranger Things concludes. The show has been a part of all of our lives for almost a decade and it has become Netflix's biggest series of all time. Needless to say that it made an impact on the TV landscape that will be felt for decades to come. And we can't wait to see how the journey for Eleven, Will, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Max, Joyce, Hopper, Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, Robin, Erica, Karen, Holly and the rest of our Hawkins favorites comes to an end.
