It goes without saying that Superman is one of the biggest movies of the year. Heck, we knew it would be going into its summer release, but the fears of recent DC shortcomings and the myth of superhero fatigue made us all a bit cautious when predicting its success. But sure enough, the Man of Steel delivered, as James Gunn's DC Universe franchise-starter was a critical and commercial success, finishing its box office run with over $600 million - making it the highest-grossing Superman movie domestically.

Now, it flies onto streaming as the movie arrives on HBO Max in the US (and in areas outside of it that also have the streamer), ready to showcase itself to a whole new audience. Its also pairs well with Gunn's DCU series Peacemaker, which is currently midway through its second season, ensuring that all of the DC Universe franchise to arrive on screens thus far is in one place.

But there's one thing we all know and love when it comes to superhero movies, and that's the post-credits scenes. If you're watching the movie on HBO Max and would like to know whether Superman has any, let's find out.

Does Superman have a post-credits scene?

If you've sat down to watch Superman on HBO Max and the credits have begun rolling, you're likely asking the question that so many moviegoers already asked in theaters: Are there any scenes after the credits? And, well, the answer is: Yes!

There are actually two scenes after the film's ending, with the first being a short clip that serves as a mid-credits scene (taking place between the colorful, cast credits and the general end credits). The second is a bit longer and it takes place after all of the credits have rolled.

It's important to note, however, that the DCU utilizes its end-credits scenes a bit differently from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in that Superman's post-credits moments aren't designed to set up a future installment. Instead, they are serving as more humorous, light-hearted tags to end things on a fun note.

If you'd like more explanation as to what they are, read on. But be warned, there are SPOILERS ahead.

Superman's post-credits scenes explained

The mid-credits scene in Superman is simply a quick glimpse of the Man of Steel and his beloved canine companion Krypto the Superdog sitting on the moon and watching Earth. A still of this scene was one of the first images released from the movie ahead of its release (but, of course, we didn't know then that it would become one of the film's post-credits scenes). It's a very brief moment but an endearing one that will leave a smile on your face when the main credits begin rolling.

The film's primary post-credits scene features Superman and Mister Terrific, who turned out to be quite the pair in the movie. They are discussing how the interdimensional tear in the very fabric of Earth was fixed and, well, how it wasn't fixed to perfection. Superman takes this opportunity to humorously point out that the two parts of the Earth are a little misaligned. Mister Terrific isn't a fan of the criticism and walks off in disgust, ending the movie on a very funny note.

And with that, Superman comes to a close, leaving fans giggling and excited for all that comes next from the DCU franchise. If it's anything like this one, we're in for a very, very fun ride indeed.
