Dead Boy Detectives

Moving along to shows that ended after just one season in 2024, we have Netflix’s Dead Boy Detectives which was inspired by the comics from Neil Gaiman. The series followed a pair of teen ghost friends who worked to solve paranormal mysteries on Earth with help from their living psychic medium friend.

The 10-episode first season was such an incredible introduction to the franchise and such a fun ride, which is why we still haven’t forgiven Netflix for cutting the show’s run so short. It was a breath of fresh air in the supernatural horror genre and we can’t help but to question whether the show would have performed better had it not been a Netflix original, as it sadly seems the show got lost in the mix on the streaming platform.

This is a show that should have gotten the chance to return for another season and we’re bitter that Netflix didn’t give it the chance to establish an audience, as it managed to build quite a passionate fan base without really any support from Netflix.

The Acolyte

Another genre show canceled in 2024 that we haven’t yet been able to get over it The Acolyte, which was an absolutely incredible addition to the Star Wars franchise. The series was canned after just one season in August and Disney brass has since come out of the woodwork to claim the show wasn’t where it needed to be in comparison to the cost it took to make the show – which seems like a vague excuse to hide behind.

It’s easy to blame ratings when you don’t have a transparent system in place for reporting ratings, and the sad truth is that The Acoltye and its cast were treated incredibly poorly by the fandom with Disney once again failing to stand behind its cast amid the horrible commentary from the toxic fans who review bombed the show.

This show was an underrated gem and it’s a shame that it was pushed to the side and ended so quickly because of the toxicity of fans.
