Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's the brand new trailer for James Gunn's Superman movie!
It's safe to say that Superman is gearing up to be one of the biggest releases of the year. The DC Studios movie will officially launch Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe, setting the stage for a brand new franchise of superheroes to soar onto the silver screen. But that's down the line, we can't forget what's also right in front of us: This is a Superman movie, and those are pretty great in and of themselves
The Man of Steel's first solo adventure since 2013, this one features David Corenswet donning the red cape and blue tights in what is looking like it's going to be a mighty triumphant adventure. If you weren't already excited for it, James Gunn has released the brand new trailer for the film, ensuring that we'll all be ready and waiting for it when it arrives in theaters this summer.
Superman takes center stage in the DC Universe
This isn't the first look at Superman - or even the first trailer for that matter - but it is the most detailed look at the movie we have seen thus far. While the first trailer functioned exactly like a teaser trailer should, teasing us with visuals and story elements and the first looks we were all waiting to see, this full trailer actually lets us under the cape a little, showcasing some of the film's actual story.
As the trailer opens, Lois Lane interviews Clark Kent (but as Superman) about his involvement in stopping a war. First of all, this confirms that Lois is aware of Clark's secret identity as the Man of Steel pretty early on in the movie; so do we see her find out or are they already together? We know they are together when having the interview, but will the film explore the moment she finds out and when they actually get together?
It appears that Superman's involvement in that war has resulted in a larger conversation about an apparent US hero getting involved in a conflict that didn't have anything to do with him, but as Superman points out: People were going to die.

Another element of the film that is explored in this trailer is Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor and the role that he might play in the film. You don't have to be a DC Superfan to know that Luthor is obsessed with the Man of Steel and it's clear that this long-standing comic book vendetta is once again a fixture of the pair's story here. Lex will look to take Superman down, seemingly jealous of the adoration that the hero has received since arriving on Earth.
There are also more glimpses of the chemistry between stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as they bring the legendary Clark Kent and Lois Lane pairing to life. We know that the Daily Planet will be a staple of their story in Superman and that's exactly as it should be.
Another character who gets a starring role: Krypto the Superdog, who runs around the Fortress of Solitude and attacks the invaders who begin tearing apart the Kryptonian drones that are in there. Lois remakrs that Clark has a dog, and we get to see a lovely shot of the good boy lying on the Man of Steel in what appears to be his childhood bedroom in the Kent farmhouse.
Speaking of the Kents, we get to see the role that they play in the film. Clark is able to lean on Jonathan and Martha for advice during the tough times, and it appears that he will need their help more than ever here as the world begins to turn on Superman. But when alien creatures show up to destroy the planet, that world will need him more than ever.
Superman arrives in movie theaters on July 11, 2025.
