Since her breakout in Orphan Black, Tatiana Maslany has become one of television’s most compelling actresses. Her role(s) as multiple clones on Black earned instant acclaim and the rare genre show to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama. She’s followed that up with turns in Perry Mason and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy among others.

Maslany added the MCU to her accolades in the title role of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. She played Jennifer Walters, Bruce Banner’s cousin, who, after getting a blood transfusion following an accident, becomes the super-strong green-skinned She-Hulk.

Since that show ended, the future of the character has been discussed and the rumors she might be in Avengers: Doomsday. Appearing on The Playlist’s Bingworthy podcast to promote her new Apple TV+ series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, Maslany pointed out that it would take something special for her to come back.

"Yeah. I mean, I don’t know. I think it would take somebody like Jessica Gao to weave her into that world because she knows that character so deeply and loves her and gets her tone, but there is something about She-Hulk being the star of her own show that makes sense. Do you know what I mean? Because of the direct address, she is our narrator. So, I think it would be a real cool challenge to see her in some other context, but I do think like the sort of joy of She-Hulk is in the singularness of it.”

The show was an outlier for Marvel and not just in the humor. It mixed a legal dramedy with some superhero actions and guest appearances from Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and Charlie Cox as Daredevil (including a fun hookup with Jennifer). Keeping with the comics, it also had Jennifer break the fourth wall to address the audience openly.

The finale was notable for Jennifer literally pausing a ridiculous overpacked climactic fight to invade Marvel Studios and openly mock several MCU storytelling cliches. That may have contributed to the show causing a divisive reaction among viewers.

Maslany openly addressed that with a tongue-in-cheek line regarding a second season for the show. “I don’t know. I think people would be so mad at me being on their screens again.”

The show was reportedly one of Disney+’s most viewed Marvel shows and the reviews were good. Yet even without the sadly toxic side of the fandom, the reactions to the series varied as some found it too comedic and simply strange to fit into the proper MCU. That’s not all on Maslany who did a great job in the part and let down by some creative decisions.

Hopefully, Maslany can return as the show was a delight when it was working and she was terrific in the role. At least she can look back at it with pride and humor in making She-Hulk an underrated part of the MCU.
