Morgan Jones
Having appeared in the eighth and final season of Fear The Walking Dead, Morgan Jones is currently the longest-standing character in the TWD Universe (though that will change when Rick Grimes returns in his and Michonne’s 2024 spinoff). He was a staple of The Walking Dead‘s very first episode, showing Rick Grimes what the world had become. And it was very exciting to see the undead world through his eyes.
Morgan continued to excite us in his guest appearances over the years, but things fell apart when he finally became a full-time character. Morgan was a skilled fighter with a strong moral compass, but over the years, the show went back and forth with him, having him deliver conflicting monologues, judge characters for doing less worse things than he did, and constantly opposing fan-favorite characters.
We also can’t overlook the fact that he was one of the main reasons that beloved spinoff Fear The Walking Dead fell apart. Shoehorning him into that show as the new lead only brought his TWD problems with it and it resulted in the loss of far more compelling protagonist Madison Clark.
Lennie James is a wonderful actor and Morgan has certainly had his moments, but The Walking Dead couldn’t make him an interesting character long-term and they destroyed their own spinoff because of their refusal to let him go.
Verdict: WORST
