There are a lot of things fans are hoping to see in The Boys series finale. From character returns and the demise of certain characters to key moments from the comics and payoff to ongoing storylines, fans have high expectations for the series finale and a long list of things they hope to see.
While there are many items on fans’ wishlists we might actually see in the finale, there are sure to be just as many that fans won’t be seeing. The creative team has been careful to avoid saying too much about what fans will and won’t see in the series finale, but there is one key character creator Eric Kripke has revealed will not appear in the final episode of the series. And it’s a character that might surprise many.

Soldier Boy is not in The Boys series finale
After playing a sizable role in the final season of The Boys, Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy will not appear in the series finale and was quietly written out of the show in its penultimate episode.
The news was confirmed by Kripke in an interview with Collider in which the mastermind behind Prime Video’s hit superhero series confirmed Ackles’ final appearance came in the penultimate episode (season 5, episode 7) which led them to include a fun nod to Supernatural.
"Yes, of course. Of course, we did. Knowing that that was going to be Jensen’s last scene in the series, we wanted to put in one last reference. Honestly, [Anslem Richardson] wrote and we shot that it was a Ford. It was, “Working on the old Ford.” The danger of having (director) Phil Sgriccia and I, sitting next to each other in editing, which we would do, was that we were watching it and Phil was like, “Should it be 'Impala'?” And I was like, “Yeah, it probably should be 'Impala.'” And so, Jensen looped in 'Impala' just to do one last nod."
The news that Soldier Boy does not appear in the series finale is honestly quite shocking, as Ackles’ final scene did not feel like a sendoff. In fact, many speculated that Soldier Boy would play a pivotal role in defeating Homelander in the final battle, which will not be the case given Ackles will not appear in the series finale.
In what has now been confirmed to be his final scene, Soldier Boy tells Homelander he's heading down to Bogota and hints that he'll probably never be coming back. The scene read as a goodbye between the characters, but many fans did not realize it was actually a goodbye for Ackles' character.
"What I want is to get away. This just ain’t my bag, kid," Soldier Boy told Homelander. "I gave you the V1 because of Clara. Because that’s what she would have wanted. This was never going to be a 'playing catch on the front lawn, fixing up the old Impala' bullsh-t. You’re too weird."
While we’ve apparently seen the last of Soldier Boy in The Boys’ final season, the good news is that we have not seen the last of Ackles in the role. Ackles will be leading the prequel series Vought Rising, which takes place decades before the events of The Boys by telling the origins of the original Supes.
A release date has not yet been announced for the show, but it’s expected the show will arrive sometime in 2027. Ackles will reprise his role of Soldier Boy, leading a cast that also includes Aya Cash reprising her role as Stormfront; Mason Dye reprising his role as Bombsight; as well as franchise newcomers Elizabeth Posey, Will Hochman, James Wolk, Josh Randall, Chad Willett, Cecily Strong, Mark Pellegrino, Eric Johnson, Annie Shapero, Raphael Sbarge, Romi Shraiter, Aaron Douglas, and David Hewett.
