The Boys season 5 is officially coming to an end, and the Prime Video hit is prepared to go out with quite a bang. Unlike other shows that might have held back in their final seasons by playing things safe, The Boys is set to go out in a blaze of glory with what is set to be an unforgettable final chapter for the show.

Fans have already been warned that no one is safe and that you shouldn’t be attached to any single character, hinting that the final showdown will be a bloodbath. It’s both terrifying and thrilling to go into a season knowing that no one is safe and that the writers aren’t playing it safe. The Boys has always taken big risks and found ways to shock fans, and fans are eager to see how this final showdown between Homelander and what’s left of The Seven and Starlight and The Boys will play out.

The final season is sure to have some intense scenes, but fans might want to tailor their expectations when it comes to the scope of the show’s battle sequences.

The Boys season 5 will not have any full battle scenes

While The Boys season 5 is certain to be an epic sendoff to Prime Video’s hit superhero drama, it seems that there is one particular thing the show wasn’t able to pull off: full battle scenes.

Speaking with SFX Magazine (per Deadline), series creator Eric Kripke revealed that while the show has pulled off many feats, there are no full battle scenes in the final season. This is not because the show did not want to include them, but rather because the budget simply did not allow for them.

“I mean, there are not full battle scenes because we still don’t have Game of Thrones‘ budget, but there are a lot of very direct confrontations; a lot of the people that you want to see smashing into each other smash into each other. I hope it’s cathartic and emotionally satisfying, but I’m a tiny bit terrified.”

The news is slightly disappointing, but not all that surprising. While The Boys has a sizable budget, it is indeed nothing like the budgets of shows such as Game of Thrones or Stranger Things. Pulling off those giant full battle scenes, such as the Battle of the Bastards or the Battle at Hardhome, and making them look good takes a lot of money, and when you have a more limited budget, it’s hard to make them work and also to justify allocating so much of your budget for a few scenes.

Would it be amazing to see an Avengers: Endgame style full battle scene in which Homelander and his followers face off against Starlight and The Boys? Absolutely. But we don’t need battles such as that to make The Boys season 5 work.

The Boys has done a fantastic job giving fans unforgettable action sequences and fight scenes, and we know that will continue in the final season. Given the things Kripke and the creative team have come up with in the past, we can only imagine what gruesome and jaw-dropping moments the writers have concocted for the final season. Those moments, when done correctly, can be just as effective as full battle scenes, and we have faith The Boys will continue to use its smaller battles to deliver big payoffs!
