No fan of The Boys should be shocked that Sage wants the destruction of Earth

Sage from The Boys having a plan for humans to fight supes, so she can be alone, isn’t surprising. Her disdain for humanity has been clear since her first appearance.

When it was announced that Susan Heyward would be in season 4 of The Boys on Prime Video, I assumed she wouldn’t be around long. Normally, additions to this show don’t last long or have a major impact. Not only was this assumption wrong, but Heyward’s character, Sage, became an important part of the show and a character fans talk about on social media.

During the season 4 finale of The Boys, Sage tells Homelander that everything she’s done was to see if she could. Before she walks off-screen, she says to buckle up for Phase Two. Now, in this season (the show’s final one), Sage tells U.S. Vice President Ashley Barrett that phase one was helping Homelander take control of the country. The next one was the end of the world.

Apparently, Sage wants the supe-killing virus released so supes and humans will kill each other. Where does that leave her? She’ll be alone in a cabin in Colorado Springs where she can read all day, every day. And, if we’re being honest, no one should be surprised by this revelation.

Sage has always hated people

It was clear from the first episode that Sage hates humanity. For example, before she realized it was Homelander knocking at her door, Sage was frustrated that she had to speak to anyone who wasn’t delivering her food. Later in the season, viewers learn that she was lobotomizing herself to give herself some relief from intellect because it made everyone seem annoying.

Those two instances alone were enough for anyone to realize that Sage would be happy to be alone forever. Even if that meant people would die. However, it doesn't end there. In season 4, episode 6 (titled “Dirty Business”), we learn what made her hate humanity.

Sage explains to Victoria Neuman that she’d found a way to cure her grandmother’s stage 3 lymphocytic leukemia. Rather than believing her, the scientist patted her on the head, called her adorable, and laughed at her. She ends this story saying that her grandmother (the one person who believed in her) died screaming in pain. She goes on to say that she could cure cancer and reverse global warming, but there’s no point. Because, to quote her, “F*** them all.”

Lastly, you don’t need to remember all of the things she’s said or what she’s done. All you have to do is think about how she looks at people. There’s never a smile or even a smirk unless she’s trying to manipulate someone. It’s always a look of disdain. Sage thinks (or knows) that she’s superior, and everyone else is a single-celled organism.

It’ll be interesting to see how Sage's story ends. She recently got it wrong when she assumed that Soldier Boy wouldn’t give Homelander the V1. However, for all we know, this could all be part of her plan. It wouldn't be unlike her to say one thing when she means another.
