The Last of Us season 2 episode 6 was the best episode of the season and maybe the best single TV episode of the year. Viewers saw Ellie and Joel’s descent from happy father and daughter to essentially being estranged after Ellie became disgusted upon learning he had lied to her about the Fireflies. Then, the two had a conversation that was supposed to change the course of their relationship. Sadly, Joel was viciously murdered before that could happen (thanks, Abby).

Joel has remained at the center of the story despite that, with the flashback episode really highlighting that. As showrunner Craig Mazin says:

"In the story of The Last of Us, there are certain elements that really speak to what the story is about. Even while Joel is gone, we get to see that he is at the heart of the story."

After the flashbacks ended, we see Ellie walking towards her, Dina, and Jesse’s base after killing Nora. We don’t know the effect that will have on Ellie, but it can’t be good. She’s already been on edge, but beating information out of someone couldn’t have helped.

That brings us to the finale.

What to expect from The Last of Us' season 2 finale

The season finale of HBO’s The Last of Us is almost here. And while the conclusion to Ellie’s part of the story is upon us, it’s not the end. Not even close.

Everything that happens in this episode will lead into the next season (the show was already renewed for a third season ahead of its season 2 premiere). If you’re familiar with The Last of Us Part II, you know that the season 2 finale of the HBO show will likely be a tragic episode of television. Characters will die, and awful things will happen to other characters you like. Yes, there are some things that are worse than death.

Viewers can also expect the return of Abby. However, like previous episodes, certain elements will be changed from the source material. What those things are remains to be seen. Who knows, maybe Abby doesn’t come back until season 3. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out.
