It's hard to believe that it's almost time for new episodes of The Last of Us. HBO's juggernaut TV series (based on the juggernaut video game series of the same name) premiered its debut season on both linear and streaming service Max back in January 2023 and it very quickly captivated audiences with its emotional storytelling, compelling drama, thrilling stakes, and incredible performances from stars Pedro pascal and Bella Ramsey. Now, it's back to do it all again.
It's been a long two years wait for new episodes of the series, but given its large production values (and the sheer business of in-demand star Pascal's schedule), it's understandable. The good news is that even more adventures await the series' fans as HBO renewed it for a third season ahead of its second season premiere.
Speaking of season 2, if you're planning on tuning in, here's when you can expect each episode.

The Last of Us was a Sunday night staple of the TV calendar throughout its first season, so it's not surprising that it has once again made its presence felt on Sundays for season 2. It's also not surprising given that HBO tends to air its most must-see TV shows on Sundays, with Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, Westworld and The Penguin all airing in that timeslot, too.
The biggest difference between seasons 1 and 2, however, is the episode count. Season 2 only consists of seven episodes, which makes it two episodes shorter than the first season (which fans were expecting to feature 10 at one point in time). And, frustrating as it might be for audiences, there is a very good reason for that.
As season 2 is based on The Last of Us Part II video game, the narrative has been adapted to match the show. With that video game being the final part of the saga's story, the decision has been made to dramatize it at a slower rate than the first season adapted the events of the original game. As a result - and with a third season on the horizon - episode 7 was chosen as a natural breaking point in the story, allowing the story to continue beyond season 2.
The Last of Us was an emotional rollercoaster the first time that it premiered on our screens. We have no doubt that season 2 will make us feel all of the same feels all over again.
