Whether you’re a fan of The Last of Us game or the show, you know things are always going to be bad. It’s the end of the world, and people are struggling to stay alive. There’s the lack of necessities, people across the country are attacking each other for various reasons, and then there’s the cordyceps-infected people who kill and reproduce at an alarming rate.

While all of that hasn’t been much of an issue for the community of Jackson, Wyoming, the weeks ahead teaser shows that things are about to get bad for them.

WARNING! POSSIBLE SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2 OF THE LAST OF US AHEAD!

It’s been mentioned that The Last of Us changes things from the source material. As great as the video game is, some moments are either boring, too long, or don’t work on a show. That means things have to be altered. Among them appears to be a switch in the cordyceps attack on Jackson, Wyoming.

The trailer shows Tommy shooting infected from the wall protecting Jackson and later using a flamethrower to take down a bloater. Neither of those things happened in the game. Tommy and Joel did have to escape a horde of infected while on patrol. But that doesn’t happen within the compound, as the preview shows. Instead, it was outside and became a way for Abby to come into contact with Joel and Tommy, leading to an unfortunate scene.

The fight within Jackson should be intense for everyone. The fact that Tommy is using a flamethrower on a bloater is a nod to the source material, and gamers will appreciate that. Meanwhile, fans of action scenes will love it for what it is. It’s a win for everyone.

With such a change to the moment, how will this lead to Abby and her crew getting to Joel? As mentioned earlier, Abby came across Joel and Tommy accidentally while running from a group of infected people. If Tommy is fighting in the compound, how does this lead to him and Joel getting captured?

Tommy will feel like he failed Joel. If he could have seen this coming or gotten to him sooner, maybe his brother wouldn’t have been killed in front of Ellie. Yes, Tommy was protecting everyone within the Jackson compound (including his wife and son), and that was more important, but that doesn’t mean he won’t blame himself. And Tommy probably still feels guilty that Joel had to cross the country with Ellie without him.

No matter what comes next, just know that things will be more emotional than anything that happened in season 1 of The Last of Us. Yes, that's possible. And don’t forget that the deaths that happened in the game may not happen on the show. With all of that said, strap in and get your heart prepared for more than it can take.
