In the previous episode of Prime Video's The Legend of Vox Machina, tragedy struck the group. This isn’t uncommon in this show or the team. It’s something they’ve repeatedly faced since the show began. However, Vox Machina lost someone who can’t be replaced.
At the end of the ninth installment, "The Temple of Truth", explosives that would destroy the temple of the Whispered One were set to go off. Without his followers, the Whispered One may not be able to ascend into godhood. Unfortunately, things only went partly right.
As the temple was being destroyed, Pike went after Delilah to kill her for murdering her great-great-grandfather, Wilhand. As Grog was stopping Pike from going after her, he was thrown into the orb by the Death Knight and torn apart. Rather than rejoin her team, Pike walks into the portal to get revenge for the deaths of Grog and Pop Pop.
This was an amazing lead into the final three episodes of the season. Here’s how you can catch the season finale in your part of the world.

What to expect in The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 finale
Prime Video’s The Legend of Vox Machina has never shied away from emotional moments. People have come and gone, villages full of people have died, and dragons have slaughtered hundreds in an instant. But the loss of Grog and Pop Pop within the same season was something no one was prepared for. And while I believe viewers will see Grog again, it’s doubtful that our first interaction with him will be a positive one. Grog will likely return as one of the Whispered One’s servants.
Admittedly, this is wishful thinking. Nevertheless, having Grog gone (even for a short time) will leave a void within the team and force them to deal with their loved one’s death. It will make for amazing viewing, even though it will be an emotional scene.
Will the Whispered One ascend to godhood? Most likely yes. A brief internet search showed that he does achieve his goal in one of Critical Role’s campaigns. Plus, it wouldn’t be as compelling if Vox Machina defeated him as a mortal.
Lastly, in the second episode of this season, Matron said that she’s been preparing Vax for what was currently beginning. Sadly, before she could explain further, he was cut off from her. My guess is that the vision Vax saw of his teammates dying wasn’t them yelling in pain. They are screaming for him as he sacrifices himself to save them, leaving yet another hole in the hearts of Vox Machina as the season ends.
