Jon Bernthal is set to return as Frank Castle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the not-too-distant future. He made his long-awaited comeback as the character in Daredevil: Born Again and is set tp reprise the role in next year's Spider-Man: Brand New Day as well as his very own Punisher Disney Plus Special Presentation.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming special, and as reported by ComingSoon.net, a new video from the New York City set of the MCU TV special has surfaced online - and it's an intense one! The video in question was (which can be viewed here in a tweet from the X account Daredevil Shots), showcases Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle engaging in a brutal fight in a parking lot against various assailants who tried to assault him.
Things will get violent in The Punisher's Disney Plus Special Presentation
The set video spotlights a vicious showdown as one of the thugs attacks Castle with a baseball bat, before the vigilante snatched the weapon from his assailant and used it to fight off the rest of his foes. This footage is clearly violent and uncompromising, so we know that, despite being produced by Disney, the currently untitled Punisher special will be every bit as violent as the TV-MA-rated Punisher series from Netflix and Marvel Television (just like Daredevil: Born Again was). Needless to say, this special will certainly not be suitable for kids.
The Punisher Disney+ special is being directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who also directed King Richard, Bob Marley: One Love, and episodes of We Own This City. Bernthal once again stars as Frank Castle, the former US marine who became a murderous vigilante after his family was killed in a mob hit. Bernthal also played Castle in Netflix's Daredevil and The Punisher, and he has now officially reprised the role in Marvel Studios' Daredevil: Born Again.
The star also wrote the script for the special alongside Green. Jason R. Moore will also reprise his role as Curtis Hoyle from the Punisher Netflix series, and the plot is expected to focus on Castle trying to take down Ma Gnucci, the head of the Gnucci crime family (who was also the main villain in the "Welcome Back, Frank" storyline from the Marvel Knights Punisher series. The special does not yet have a confirmed release date, but we can expect it to arrive on Disney+ sometime next year.
And Bernthal will also be appearing as the Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is now filming in Glasgow. Therefore, we can expect the plot of the Punisher Disney+ special to connect to the plot of Brand New Day, making the special essential viewing for anyone looking forward to catching Spider-Man’s next cinematic outing on the big screen.
The Punisher Special Presentation will release on Disney Plus in 2026.
