Fans of The Walking Dead were devastated when the series concluded its eleven-season run in 2022. Their spirits were then lifted with the promise of at least three direct spinoffs that would join the previously released spinoffs: Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and Tales of the Walking Dead.

The first seasons of The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon made their presence felt in 2023 while the Rick and Michonne spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, arrived in 2024.

A new year brings new seasons, so which of the TWD Universe spinoffs will premiere new seasons in 2025?

AMC has announced that the Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan) led series, Dead City, will return for a second season in Spring 2025.

The first season focused on the rescue of Maggie's son Hershel (Logan Kim), which she secured by betraying Negan. This wasn't a surprise, as Maggie and Negan were longtime enemies. It appeared that things may have turned a corner until the truth was realized; Maggie was set to get her ultimate revenge by turning Negan over to a former Savior, The Croat (Željko Ivanek).

The upcoming season's teaser debuted at NYCC, showing Negan returning to his old ways as he becomes part of the criminal world run by The Dama (Lisa Emery) in Manhattan.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3

The Daryl Dixon spinoff is possibly the best spinoff in TWDU. Part of this is attributed to the fact that seasons 1 and 2 were set and filmed in France. This gave the series a drastically different tone than anything else seen in the universe.

AMC has announced that the third season of Daryl Dixon will premiere in 2025. The first two seasons debuted in the fall of 2023 and 2024, so it's possible the upcoming season will follow suit with a fall 2025 release. Now that we know Dead City will be arriving in spring, it wouldn't be surprising if this one's return was held until the second half of the year.

The third season will continue the journey of the reunited Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) as they travel to Spain. The teaser below gives viewers a sneak peek into what happens next for the dynamic duo.

What next in The Walking Dead universe?

TWD Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple has long teased fans about more spinoffs and possible cameos in the current series. During the 2024 New York Comic-Con panel, he discussed that creators are in the lab processing more ideas for the future of TWDU. He stated, "We have something cooking up in another area of the world, something very different." Adding that there is something "relatively imminent" and "dreams of the future." This is exciting as it has been the perfect refresh for the franchise to feature stories in Manhattan, France, and Philadelphia.

In 2023, AMC announced the order of a new short-form spinoff with the working title More Tales of the Walking Dead. This was announced as another addition to the universe, but no other details have been released since then. Speculation is that it would continue the anthology pattern of Tales of the Walking Dead.

Fans of The Walking Dead are ready to see more of what's to come within the universe but would especially like to see more familiar faces in new stories. Only time will tell what's next.
