Superhero stories have become so iconic that they have surpassed the barriers of comic book pages and been adapted into theatrical movies, TV series, and, of course, video games. But out of all these different media, the latter has seen special growth in recent years. Initially, players would get nothing but rushed tie-in movie titles that rarely captivated them or earned raving reviews (with the exception of Spider-Man 2 or X-Men Origins: Wolverine). However, the genre has evolved over time and reached unimaginable heights thanks to the release of Batman: Arkham City, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and many more. Now, the sky isn't the limit anymore, and we're eager to see what adventures await next.
Many superhero video games are currently being developed, and the best part is that there's something for everyone's liking. In the following years, we'll see the release of AAA action-adventure titles developed by legends of the industry, VR experiences that will put you right in the middle of the action, fighting games that are bound to push you to the very limit, and 2D beat 'em ups that seem like classics in the making. There is no shortage of options to choose from.
But before we begin, it's worth pointing out that this list will be presented in no particular order, as these titles encompass many different genres and are bound to be completely different from one another. So, now that we've got that out of the way, here are eight upcoming superhero games that we're excited for.
1. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
Remember a little video game saga called Uncharted? Well, the mastermind behind its first three titles, Amy Hennig, is now the co-president of Skydance New Media—the same studio that's developing the highly anticipated Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. This upcoming action-adventure title will feature no shortage of iconic Marvel heroes, as Captain America, Black Panther, Gabriel Jones, and Nanali will all be playable characters (even if they might not be on the same page from the get-go).
As revealed by the trailers released so far, the game will be a technical powerhouse thanks to graphics that feel next-gen and jaw-dropping facial animations that add an extra layer of realism to the characters. While we haven't seen any gameplay yet, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is scheduled to be released in early 2026. With that in mind, it won't be long before Skydance New Media finally reveals more about its upcoming adventure (perhaps during San Diego Comic Con 2025), and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.
