The Walking Dead just killed off two major characters

The TWD Universe continues to show us that it isn't afraid to take risks in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2.

The world of The Walking Dead continues in the form of multiple new spinoffs that have placed the focus on some of the original show's most beloved characters. The credits rolled on that original series back in 2022, but there were still stories to tell; stories that came to life in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

The latter of those shows brought back Rick Grimes and Michonne earlier this year, and Dead City's Maggie and Negan will return for their second season next year. Daryl and Carol, however, they returned to screens just a few weeks ago for the second season of Daryl Dixon, subtitled The Book of Carol, which has aimed to reunite the titular pair.

But the TWD Universe isn't afraid to kill off a character or two even in the midst of something as heartwarming as a reunion. Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened in season 2 of that show, as a jaw-dropping episode brought with it some truly unexpected developments.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 episode 4 kills two major characters

We're at the halfway point of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 2 and that has brought with it the reunion we've all been waiting for. The fourth episode of the show, "Le Paradis Pour Toi", saw Daryl and Caryl reunite when The Nest was overrun by the experimental walkers that Madame Genet had created. And it was an emotional moment that allowed Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride to shine as the fan-favorite duo.

The previous episode had ended with Carol in danger of becoming one of the walkers after Madame Genet betrayed her, but the always resourceful badass hopped in a nearby car and drove it away with Codron attached to it, saving his life from the hungry walkers. Daryl also managed to escape his capture at The Nest, fighting his way out of imprisonment and through the ravenous herd. But he had some help, and when the walkers went down, he saw none other than his beloved best friend Carol Peletier waiting for him.

Their emotional reunion was everything the Caryl fans wanted it to be, but it bittersweet. As Carol arrived, she found Sister Isabelle Carriere wounded (after being stabbed by Losang). She helped her feel more comfortable and, by the time she returned with Daryl, Isabelle was ready to say goodbye. Daryl promises her that he will take care of Laurent and Isabelle passes away.

Needless to say, this was a shock that we weren't expecting; especially halfway through the season. While the TWD Universe is no stranger to killing off main characters in any of its shows, this felt surprising given how important Sister Isabelle is to the storyline, its characters, Daryl, and Laurent.

She has been a staple of the show since its first season and it doesn't feel right to end her arc in this manner. But at least she knew that Daryl will take care of Laurent when he finds him, and that Daryl himself was reunited with Carol, before she died.

But "Le Paradis Pour Toi" was full of shocks, as the second half of the episode also witnessed the death of Madame Genet. It was a brutal death, too, as Carol shot her with the dart containing her super-walker serum, and well if you ever wondered how it would affect humans, you got your answers here.

As soon as the dart went into her back, Genet panicked and scrambled to remove it, but she couldn't reach it. Within seconds, her body began convulsing as she sounded like she was choking. Black veins crept up her neck and manifested in the form of large black bubbles on her face, which then burst as Genet fell to the floor dead.

In just four episodes, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has killed off three of its original characters, as Isabelle and Genet's deaths come just one week after Sylvie plummeted to her death in The Nest itself. It was a genuinely shocking moment that certainly set the tone for the episodes to come, but we still didn't expect to lose two more major characters in the subsequent episode.

Madame Genet was the main villain of the show, which is what made her midseason death surprising (especially as Daryl almost killed her in the season 2 premiere). But her group has now aligned itself with Losang (who Genet was planning to kill) and The Nest, as all of the remaining threats on the show have united in a bid to find Laurent and perform their twisted test on him.

Needless to say that the fourth episode of the season was one of the biggest that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has produced yet. As excited as we are to see where the show takes viewers next, it will definitely miss the presence of actors Clémence Poésy and Anne Charrier (as well as Laïka Blanc-Francard as Sylvie).
