Ultimate Wolverine: The best there is returns with help from Legion

You'll never believe why the Maker is partly responsible for Ultimate Wolverine getting his memories back and how it connects to Legion.

When the Maker (Ultimate Reed Richards) remade the Ultimate Universe (Universe-6160), he did everything he could to make sure none of the heroes could stop him. Captain America was never defrosted, Peter Parker wasn't bitten by the cosmic spider, and Luke Cage never got out of prison. Another hero that the Maker knew would cause problems was Wolverine, and he smartly took care of him, too.

To keep Logan from becoming a hero, Maker killed the scientist who bonded the metal on Logan’s bones, the Professor. However, Logan does go through the adamantium process. Instead of Weapon X, it’s the Eurasian Republic run by Colossus, Magik, and Omega Red; as a result of this, Wolverine becomes their Winter Soldier.

At the end of Ultimate Wolverine No. 5, Logan fought Sabretooth (who’s like a brother to him in this universe). Luckily, Logan was knocked out and taken away by his friends before he did something else he’d regret. A bonus to this story came in the next issue when Wolverine is reprogrammed back to his normal self by another X-Man, Legion, who’s stuck in a computer, again, thanks to the Maker. The funny thing is, the villain made a mistake attempting to kill David Haller.

At the end of Ultimate Wolverine No. 6, Beast is explaining Legion’s past. One of the things he mentioned was that David says he doesn't have voices in his head now that his consciousness has been put inside a computer. Instead of having the fractured mind in a physical body, David is inside a computer that helps protect mutants from the Eurasian Republic.

This is one of those moments where doing nothing was a better option than sabotaging someone. The Legion that the Maker knows from Krakoa was a threat because he had made peace with the personalities inside his mind. Before that, David was unstable and could have become one of his allies. Or, even worse, a weapon.

In short, the Maker helped the Opposition by trying to kill David. Now their mission of rescuing mutants and keeping them safe became a little less dangerous, and the Eurasian Republic lost its Winter Soldier. However, if Universe-6160 is anything like Universe-616, then what little good favor the mutants have will run out soon.
