What you need to know

It took forever, but fans can finally look forward to a female-led superhero movie. It’s probably fitting that it’s this one, seeing as Wonder Woman is the most famous representative for her gender in the history of comics.

We’ll see Gadot’s version of the Amazon warrior first in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, leaving her solo film to tell the story of how she first encountered “Man’s World.” It’s set to be a period piece, set decades before the present, meaning that absent some kind of comic book story mechanism, this might be the only time we see Pine’s Steve Trevor.

Getting a noted female director was important for Warner Bros., and after first choice Michelle MacLaren departed (reportedly over creative differences), the studio rebounded nicely by signing Jenkins. Like Suicide Squad, there is some inherent pressure for all involved, because fans and critics alike want to see the character done justice and proof that the plans for the DC Extended Universe can become a reality.
