What you need to know

After Sony made a mess of the Amazing Spider-Man film series and seemed lost as to what to do with the character, it ended up making a deal with Marvel to share Spidey’s movie rights. That means the wall-crawler can now be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (beginning with an appearance in Captain America: Civil War) and that the two studios would collaborate on what to do with him next.

The downside is that means yet another reboot, so there’s some urgency for Watts, Daley and Goldstein to show the public it can make Peter Parker’s teenage years entertaining again. Holland could be the fresh face that was needed all along, but much will depend on what villains are used and how all the talent can tell a story that doesn’t simply rehash what we’ve seen before.
