What you need to know

Marvel has the hottest black director in Hollywood, Coogler, coming off his success with Creed, to shape the adventures of the man who is arguably the company’s premier minority superhero. T’Challa is a king, a scientist and a warrior, and it will be interesting to see if his Marvel Cinematic Universe portrayal embodies all of those qualities.

The seeds for this film were first sowed in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which introduced vibranium, the precious metal found in Black Panther’s native Wakanda, as well as a potential villain in Ulysses Klaue. Boseman will get a proper debut in Captain America: Civil War, where his presence could easily help tip the scales in the battle between heroes.
