We've watched Eddie Brock go from a disgraced journalist to a Lethal Protector, and even adopt the Carnage persona. Unfortunately, we might see him die next.

In case you haven't gotten up to speed on recent Spider-Man comic books, there's a whole lot of shocking developments to explain. First and foremost, Mary Jane bonded with the Venom symbiote and has been acting as New York's greatest protector ever since—keeping citizens safe from no shortage of terrifying threats. But why hasn't Spidey been able to do the same? Well, he was punched into space and spent many days exploring the cosmos before coming back to Earth. As for Eddie Brock, he bonded with the Carnage symbiote and has been trying his best to contain the monster within.

There's also another little detail that's worth discussing: There's a new symbiotic serial killer in town called Torment, who is killing anyone who is remotely related to Peter Parker, Eddie Brock, or Mary Jane Watson. The identity of this new villain remains unknown for the time being, though it has been teased that he's related to Peter's past. But while fans await to see who Torment really is, it appears Marvel could've indirectly confirmed one of Torment's next victims, and it might be none other than Eddie Brock.

A new Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity preview has convinced fans that Eddie Brock will die

Are we about to witness the end of an era? Marvel has released a preview of its upcoming five-issue limited series, Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity (2026), and it contains a huge spoiler for the ongoing Death Spiral storyline.

See, in the preview, it is revealed that Norman Osborn and Spider-Woman will bring together a group of arachnid heroes and train them in case Norman ever turns back into the Green Goblin again. But before this new Spider-Team gets a proper chance to prepare for any upcoming threats, they will be forced to jump into action and fight a "changed" and deadly version of Carnage. That's right, it appears the infamous Marvel villain will go back to his old violent ways, as revealed by Marvel itself:

"The tutelage of the younger Spider-Men and Spider-Women of the Marvel Universe by Norman Osborn and Jessica Drew continues! The Spiders have learned a lot, but both Norman and Jessica would never pit them up against Carnage. Fresh out of the hit "Death Spiral," Carnage has changed and is on a collision course that might make this the deadliest book in Spider-History!"

Tom Hardy (Finalized)

This brief synopsis was more than enough to convince Spider-Man fans that the Death Spiral storyline will conclude with the Carnage symbiote leaving Eddie Brock to bond with Cletus Kasady, as in the good old days. However, it's important to remember that Eddie bonded with the evil alien, not out of preference, but out of necessity. Eddie was dying, and the only way to survive was for a symbiote to heal his wounds. So what will it mean for Eddie to part ways with his current partner?

Since there's a chance that Cletus Kasady could be back soon, and he hasn't appeared in a single comic book issue in months, fans also speculate that he could secretly be Torment. Granted, this option seems unlikely given how obvious it is. But if it were to come true, then there's a chance that Torment/Cletus will partially succeed in his mission and kill Eddie Brock and recover the Carnage symbiote.

While Eddie's possible death might seem heartbreaking at first sight, it's important to remember this is the comic book world we're talking about, where anyone could make an "unexpected" comeback (even Gwen Stacy). Chances are that, whenever Mary Jane says goodbye to the Venom mantle, Eddie will somehow be brought back to life and become the Lethal Protector once more. That being said, nothing is set in stone just yet, and we'll have to wait and see how the Death Spiral storyline develops over the following weeks.
