Kept you waiting, Bub? There was a time when superhero fans thought Marvel's Wolverine would never see the light of day, given how both PlayStation and Insomniac Games refused to talk about it. After the video game's announcement all the way back in 2021, we spent a long period in the dark, counting the days until we'd learn more about Logan's upcoming adventure. Fortunately, not only is it nearly time to slash our way through no shortage of problems, but we'll also have a better idea of what to expect when the anticipated Marvel game hits shelves.

PlayStation announced a new State of Play presentation set to take place on June 2 at 2:00 p.m. PT, which will give us "updates on upcoming PS5 games". More importantly, it will give us an extended look at Marvel's Wolverine ahead of its release on Sep. 15, 2026. But what can we expect from this anticipated new look at Insomniac's upcoming title?

PlayStation is likely to feature a gameplay deep-dive of Marvel's Wolverine on its upcoming State of Play presentation

Despite the fact that PlayStation already released a gameplay trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, many questions still remain about it. Will the game be open-world? It seems unlikely, but we have yet to have any official confirmation. Will there be unlockable suits? That one seems like a given for any superhero game, but we have yet to have a taste of the costumes to be featured. There are also some more interesting questions, such as what accessibility features will be present.

As such, the upcoming State of Play presentation should reveal whether Marvel's Wolverine will be open-world, semi-open, or if it will be made up of strictly linear levels. It could also unveil any other playable characters aside from Wolverine (provided there are any). If there are any sort of secondary quests, then we should get a taste of what they should be like as well. Besides, it's all but guaranteed that there will be some sort of Collector's or Deluxe Edition, so what perks will it have? Now is the perfect time to answer all of those questions and more.

The gameplay footage that will be showcased at the upcoming State of Play is likely to follow Logan as he completes a main story mission, so we should be able to see what kind of traversal abilities he has. Insomniac also worked on the Marvel's Spider-Man franchise, where the traversal system was one of the highlights of the game. Granted, Logan won't be able to shoot webs and soar through the air, so how will he be able to go from one point to another other than walking? Will he climb walls or ride his ever-trusty bike? Those are the answers we are all waiting for, and they should come our way soon.

Insomniac could also decide to show off the PS5 Pro version of the game and highlight the differences between it and the base PS5 version. Last, but certainly not least, we could also get a glimpse of the accessibility features and maybe even get a rough estimation of how long the title is set to be.

Granted, it's important to remember that the main Summer Game Fest show is set to take place on June 5, and there's a chance Sony showcases more of Marvel's Wolverine there. However, it isn't far-fetched to assume that we'd get a new, short trailer at most, given that developers usually have to pay to showcase their work at the Summer Game Fest show. On the other hand, Sony wouldn't have to spend money to give us an extended look at their upcoming game on their very own State of Play show.

Marvel's Wolverine is set to be released on September 15, which means this upcoming State of Play presentation is the perfect chance for the beginning of a strong marketing push. After all, the event will mark three months until the game finally hits shelves, so now's the time to fully drop the curtain and show what Insomniac has been working on for over half a decade.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released on Sept. 15, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro.
