The Mandalorian season 4: Everything we know so far

As we wait to see our favorite unlikely duo back in action, here’s everything we know about The Mandalorian season 4 so far.

Season 3 of The Mandalorian blessed our screens `a-la Disney+ earlier this year, delivering a wild and fun ride through a galaxy far, far away. Fans are already eagerly looking ahead to the next installment, season 4. With the action-packed finale of season 3 leaving us in suspense, let’s dive into what we know about the forthcoming fourth season.

While it’s been known that season 4 of the adored Star Wars show is already in the works and series creator Jon Favreau already confirmed that he finished writing the scripts months ago while season 3 was in post-production, it could very well take a while before we see a release date for season 4.

Sad, I know. But, while we chew on that, let’s take a look at what we do know about season 4.

Is there a release date for The Mandalorian season 4?

The burning question on every fan’s mind right now is whether The Mandalorian season 4 has been given a release date. As of August 2023, no release date has been announced for season 4.

Although Disney hasn’t dropped any official release dates or estimates yet, given the show’s immense popularity, it’s safe to assume that the House of Mouse will likely release it sooner rather than later.

Initial plans for season 4 production had set a September start date, but all of that was defenestrated when the WGA initiated a strike on May 2, followed by the SAG-AFTRA strike as well.

Taking all these factors into account, if the writers’ strike reaches a resolution around the same time as the actors’ strike, production could kick off in January 2024. Hopefully. This delay of around four months from the original timeline would push the filming to wrap up around June 2024. So… as long as all the dominos fall in place, we might find ourselves clicking “play” on season 4 episode 1 sometime in 2024.

The Mandalorian season 4 cast

Though there have been no announcements regarding new castings for season 4, we can only hope that it’ll bring back many familiar faces that have become synonymous with the Mandalorian universe. From Internet Daddy Pedro Pascal reprising his role as the ever-helmeted Din Djarin, to Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze and Emily Swallow as the Armorer, we can rest for now as there has been no news concerning recasting. So far.

The show’s trajectory could also have Giancarlo Esposito’s potential return as Moff Gideon, although the outcome rests at a fifty-fifty probability. His character’s death in season 3 might not be the end, given the Star Wars knack for plot twists and deceased characters somehow returning.

I joke, but let’s not forget Gideon also had a thing for clones.

What will happen in season 4 of The Mandalorian?

With the season 3 finale closing a significant storyline, the upcoming season 4 will likely embark on new story arcs and even more fun adventures. The prospect of a time jump and fresh character dynamics does open doors for new and exciting developments. Could you imagine if season 4’s first episode started off with a cold open with a talking Grogu? That would be adorable, and hopefully not infuriating.

It is safe to speculate that season 4 will likely serve as a sort of path for the story of the MandoVerse to join all the interconnected Star Wars shows,  building toward Thrawn and the Heir to the Empire book-based movie that Dave Filoni will be directing. We could very well see some of the characters from Ahsoka appearing in season 4 as the shows continue to interconnect and add to the current Star Wars canon. Ahsoka herself already had an appearance in The Mandalorian season 2.5 The Book of Boba Fett, which makes an appearance in season 4 both overdue and welcome.

It also wouldn’t shock anyone if the bulk of season 4 is Din and Grogu making their way around the various planets that exist in the Star Wars universe (that’s right, Tatooine isn’t the only one!) and either causing trouble or solving other people’s problems. As far as a set plot or direction, we currently have nothing to work with at this moment.

Will Din Djarin take his helmet off in season 4 of The Mandalorian?

This is a question that depends on both lore and real-life conundrums. Would Din break his vow and remove his helmet again, joining Bo-Katan as she seeks to reunite all Mandalorians – those who follow the Way and those who don’t – or will he forever have his face confined inside of it? Will Pedro Pascal’s schedule align with the filming as he’s also involved with the hit series The Last of Us, allowing him time to act and not just do voice-overs?

No breadcrumbs have been dropped in regard to this, so speculation is all we have at this point.

How many episodes will be in season 4 of The Mandalorian?

I believe it’s safe to assume that eight will be the magic number for season 4, as it has been the norm for the previous seasons.

I hate that, and I miss it when shows had 20 episodes per season.
