4. Jumping between buildings

Movie: Spider-Man (2002)

There are many iconic moments scattered throughout the first-ever Spider-Man movie, but one that always comes to mind is when Peter discovers he can climb walls while on an alleyway. It's a fantastic moment that serves to let audiences know Spider-Man is finally coming. Unfortunately, it's followed by a not-so-polished sequence where Peter jumps between buildings while pushing his new abilities to the limit. While the VFX during these shots was completely fine for a 2002 movie, it unfortunately hasn't aged like a fine wine.

You can clearly see all the different techniques used to bring this sequence to life. From real-life stunts, all the way to green screens for the background, and even a complete CGI body double for Tobey Maguire. Unfortunately, the latter has janky animations that give it an uncanny valley effect. Besides, even the way in which the real Tobey Maguire runs against a green screen feels unnatural. While Sam Raimi did a fantastic job directing an entire Spider-Man trilogy, perhaps this specific sequence could've benefited from a little more planning.

There are many moments throughout Spider-Man (2002) where the CGI isn't on par with the rest of the movie. However, few distract as much as the time when Peter jumps between buildings after discovering its powers, and that's why it earned a well-deserved spot on this list.
