You don't have to look far to find a Marvel fan. They are everywhere these days, and rightly so as the world just loves seeing the countless Marvel Comics superheroes come to both the big screen and the small one. And when we do see them on the former, we usually rewatch them on the latter. That's how it works in today's day and age.
The biggest reason for the success of this genre today is undoubtedly the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Marvel Studios crafted a single-shared universe full of beloved characters that people fell in love with through the almost-two-decades it has been in existence.
That said, they aren't the only studio that produces Marvel movies (we'll explain that one in a moment), and now one of the most notorious superhero films of them all is set to bow out of streaming as it is officially leaving its current streaming platform behind. So, if you are one of the many who love rewatching these movies, you better revisit this one now!
Marvel's "worst" movie Madame Web leaving Netflix in November 2025
According to What's on Netflix, Madame Web leaves Netflix in the United States on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025. Previous rumors about the panned Marvel movie's removal from Netflix suggested the film would bounce from the streamer about a month earlier in October. However, those who actually like the movie have a few extra weeks to sneak their last watches in before it leaves.
Madame Web was first added to Netflix in the US in May 2024, quickly following the movie's tepid response in theaters that February. The movie was met with almost immediate negative reception from both viewers and critics, topping out at a 10% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In spite of its critical failure, the movie managed to make over $100 million worldwide against its $80 million budget. In many respects, that box office outcome makes the movie a flop, though making $100 million is still impressive given the dreadful word of mouth.

Regardless of how the movie was received in theaters, its streaming release on Netflix gave Madame Web a second wind. Don't believe everything you hear about movies and how they perform in theaters. For all intents and purposes, Madame Web was a hit thanks to Netflix. The movie boasted over 1 billion minutes watched after its May 2024 debut on the streamer.
Madame Web continued to be one of the most streamed movies of May 2024, logging hundreds of millions of more minutes watched in the following weeks. Maybe the movie is objectively bad to some people, but everyone certainly wanted to tune in to see just how bad it is.
Its lifespan on Netflix will soon come to an end, but there's no confirmed new streaming home after its November 2025 removal. The most logical streamer for the movie to land on would be Disney+ like fellow Sony-produced Marvel film Morbius, which ended up on the Disney streamer after leaving Netflix. However, Marvel fans might not be in a rush to watch Madame Web on streaming right away.
Madame Web marked the beginning of the end for Sony's critically-reviled Spider-Verse movies
Although Madame Web is a Marvel Comics character, the movie was produced by Sony Pictures - not Marvel Studios - as Sony owns the movie rights to Spider-Man and a bunch of his characters. The two studios did agree to have Spidey join the MCU in joint collaborations, but Sony also attempted to launch its own, separate live-action Spider-Verse consisting of Spider-Man villains and supporting characters.
It found immediate success with Venom, which made over $800 million at the box office in 2018 despite negative reviews from critics. Two more movies in that franchise would be released and, even though they had diminishing returns with audiences questioning almost everything about them, they were still box office successes because of the mainstream appeal of the Venom character. The same couldn't be said for underperformer Morbius or outright flops Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter.

Kraven was released in December last year and it became one of the lowest-grossing superhero movies ever made earning $62 million against a budget of $110 - $130 million. However, like Madame Web, the film ended up becoming a major Netflix success, surging up its charts upon its arrival on the platform earlier this year.
There is clearly an audience for these movies - or a curiosity at least - so even though they underperformed in theaters, people are still tuning into them at home. Even though they will never be the success stories that the Marvel Studios movies are, there is no denying that there is always some interest in a movie based on a Marvel character.
Unfortunately, the failures of both Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter have resulted in the demise of this universe once and for all, with Sony now reportedly looking for a way to relaunch and / or reboot it in the future. In the meantime, however, the films continue to garner audiences on streaming.
If you haven't watched Madame Web on Netflix yet, you still can before its departure on November 14!
