On the previous episode X-Men ‘97 season 2, the X-Men are given a difficult task: They had to rescue a hate-filled bigot named Graydon Creed from the Savage Land. The irony of mutant hatred is that he's the son of Victor Creed (Sabretooth) and Raven Darkholme (Mystique).

Of course, Marvel's Mightiest Mutants accept the mission, but the situation is more than just search and rescue. They were saving him from being killed by the Acolytes of Magento. Among them was their friend and former teammate, Piotr Rasputin, aka Colossus.

After a fight with Exodus, Nightcrawler teleports his half-brother into the fierce arctic cold and leaves him with a scathing but truthful message. “You may not be a mutant, but you are very much your parents’ son.” The head of O*N*E* (Office of National Emergency) wasn't happy that he wasn't returned to the United States, but, as Charles Xavier mentioned, their job was complete. Graydon Creed is alive.

The X-Men return home, with Colossus in tow. Nightcrawler asks Piotr if he convinced him not to have Graydon executed. Piotr, ever the honest person, tells him that he wasn’t convinced. However, he said his sister, Illyana, would have been.

What to expect in the penultimate episode of X-Men ‘97

At the end of the episode, X-Force (Cable, Psylocke, Archangel, Sunspot, and Jubilee) finally locate Apocalypse. However, when they see him, he’s withered and dead. The only clue to what happened is a charred Queen of Hearts playing card. It looks like that means En Sabah Nur was killed by Gambit.

If Remy LaBeau did kill Apocalypse, the X-Men and X-Force are in trouble. They aren’t only fighting someone powerful enough to kill Magneto. They’re going up against someone they care about.

The upcoming eighth episode is the penultimate episode of X-Men '97 season 2, which means that the X-Men could be about to face their biggest challenge yet. Stay tuned to Bam Smack Pow to find out if that's the case.
