The wall-crawler is almost back. On Jan. 29, 2025, a new version of Peter Parker will swing onto the small screen courtesy of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man — an animated series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's multiverse and streaming on Disney+. Audiences worldwide will see the timid teenager from Queens discover his newfound powers, craft his own costume, team up with Doctor Strange and Daredevil, and maybe even battle the Kingpin.
In a time when Tom Holland's Spider-Man is too busy fixing the multiverse, it's nice to have another iteration of the character going back to the streets and starring in a grounded storyline. All the pieces are in place for a memorable adventure to come our way, and we can't wait to watch how it all unfolds.
But before we discover if Marvel has another success on its hands, we should know what exactly to expect. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will consist of 10 episodes and weekly releases. The biggest difference is we'll get to enjoy two or three episodes per week this time around instead of just the usual one. Such a strategy will ensure the series doesn't steal the spotlight from Daredevil: Born Again once March arrives. The only question left unanswered was how long each episode would be — and while we had our guesses, a new report might have set all doubts aside.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man possible episode runtimes
It looks like the runtimes for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man have been revealed. According to reliable insider Cryptic HD QUALITY, the episodes will on average have a runtime of about 30 minutes, with each episode ranging between 26 and the full 30 minutes.
Here are the apparent runtimes for each episode:
- Episode 1: 27 mins
- Episode 2: 26 mins
- Episode 3: 28 mins
- Episode 4: 29 mins
- Episode 5: 28 mins
- Episode 6: 28 mins
- Episode 7: 28 mins
- Episode 8: 29 mins
- Episode 9: 28 mins
- Episode 10: 30 mins
At the moment, it remains unclear if those runtimes include the credit sequence or not, but assuming that proves to be the case, then each episode would have around 20 - 22 minutes worth of content. While it may not appear like a lot at first sight, it falls in line with the episode length of the other two MCU animated shows: What If...? and X-Men '97.
Given the 10-episode run, we'd likely be looking at more than three and a half hours worth of content, which is more than enough to tell a well-thought-out origin story and give it its own unique spin. Furthermore, it's worth remembering that the tale of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man already started in comic book pages. The first two issues of the tie-in comic book are out, and they've revealed no shortage of interesting details.
For starters, Uncle Ben was already dead in this universe even before Peter Parker had the chance to be bitten by a spider. It's a huge tidbit considering the reason Spider-Man exists in comic book pages is because he felt responsible for the death of his paternal figure — something that won't happen this time around. Furthermore, Silvermane seems to be the big bad of the opening arc given that he sent the Enforcers to kill Spidey (but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he's simply following the Kingpin's orders). Last, but not least, this version of Peter Parker kinda gave up on being Spider-Man for a little while before returning stronger than ever. Thankfully, all of these details paint a clearer picture of what has been a very secretive project so far.
Since only one trailer has been released for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, it's clear we've only scratched the surface of what the show has to offer. Especially when you take into account we'll have more than three hours worth of content and that additional comic book tie-ins on the way. Hopefully, Marvel is keeping their cards so close to the chest to save some big and unexpected surprises until the release day. That way, the series turns out to be more memorable than what anyone could've expected.
The first two episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be released on Jan. 29, 2025, on Disney+.
