Charlie Cox To Be Daredevil
By Steve Lam
On Tuesday, May 27, Latino Review reported that Charlie Cox was chosen to be Daredevil. Within a short time, Variety and Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the casting was official. The British actor will be roaming Hell’s Kitchen as The Man Without Fear in Marvel/Netflix’s live-action, 13-episode Daredevil series.
Charlie Cox previously starred in 2007’s Stardust. He was also a regular on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. The reveal comes only a few days after surprising news that Drew Goddard stepped down as showrunner for Daredevil. His replacement will be Steven S. DeKnight. Goddard will remain as a consultant for the series.
This will only be the third live-action outing for Daredevil. Previous incarnations, sans animation and published stories, include Daredevil (2003) starring Ben Affleck (now Bruce Wayne / Batman for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and the small-screen’s Trial of the Incredible Hulk (1989) with Rex Smith in the role of the blind lawyer turned vigilante superhero.
Daredevil will be one of four Marvel/Netflix shows centered around events taking place in Hell’s Kitchen. The other three will be Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones. Like the cinematic universe, all four characters from each show will later converge together in a miniseries event called The Defenders — another superhero team akin to The Avengers.
