Seven Versions Of Spider-Man I Still Want To See In Spider-Man Unlimited
By Nick Tylwalk
I’ve been pretty tough on Gameloft for some of its Marvel mobile games in the past, but the company got it right with Spider-Man Unlimited. It’s a great marriage between a character and a genre — an endless runner in this case, though it’s much more than that — and it’s got great art and classic Spider-Man quips to boot.

It’s also got 14 different playable versions of Spider-Man in various rarity levels to start, and Gameloft says even more are on the way. The idea is to get as many different spider-powered characters in the game as possible, setting the bar so high that no other video game will come close.
To that end, 14 is great, but I’ve got even more on my wish list. Here are seven more options I’d like to see in Spider-Man Unlimited when the updates start coming:
- Black Costume Spider-Man
Put simply, it’s a classic, so much so that it has lived on thanks to Venom, the Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman and every once in a blue moon, with Peter Parker himself. I’d imagine we’ll be seeing this before long.
- Future Foundation Spider-Man
Not necessarily one that all fans think of fondly, and it wasn’t worn for all that long in the comics, but I dig the black-on-white look. It’s relatively hard to obtain in the Super Hero Squad Online MMO, so maybe it shows up only in the higher rarity levels in Spider-Man Unlimited.
- Iron Spider Spider-Man
This one makes me sad, as Iron Man is my favorite Marvel hero, and it reminds me of the time during Civil War that Tony Stark basically tried to bribe Peter onto his side during Civil War. What a jerk. Anyway, it’s a great-looking outfit, and the extra mechanical arms don’t necessarily need to be functional in this game if the developers don’t want to complicate things.
- Spider-Man 2099
Miguel O’Hara is back in his own ongoing series, which is terrific so far. I think the Spidey 2099 costume has become somewhat iconic in its own right, so there’s no reason we shouldn’t see it here.
- Spider-Ham
Goofy? Sure, but that’s part of his charm. Peter Porker would require a little more work on the part of the devs since he’s not even close to the same height as the other Spideys. Pigs are just built differently than people. But it would still be awesome if they can find a way to squeeze him in.
- Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew)
I have no idea if the Gameloft team is considering female Spider-people, but if it is, Jess would be my first choice. Her costume is a colorful contrast to what’s in the game so far, and while she doesn’t web-swing, you can have her glide through those segments of the gameplay instead.
- Ultimate Spider-Man (Miles Morales)
I have to think this is inevitable. Ultimate Peter Parker would also be welcome, but Miles’ costume is more of its own thing than Peter’s suit. Maybe it doesn’t have to be an either/or thing and we’ll get them both.
