Amazing Spider-Man Year One comics to unveil new villain
By Daniel Wood
Earlier it was announced that Marvel would be releasing a new Spider-Man miniseries ‘Amazing Spider-Man Year One: Learning to Crawl’. The miniseries would contain five issues and would explore the origins of Spider-Man, because that’s quite clearly an untold and never before seen story. Okay, I jest, almost everyone on Earth is familiar with the origin of Spider-Man and in all actuality this comic series is going to be fantastic.
And it’s going to be fantastic for many reasons. First of all it’s being helmed by Dan Slotts with art provided by Ramon Perez. The story will follow Peter Parker in his first 60 days as Spider-Man. The comic’s covers will be made by Alex Ross. So far it’s all exciting stuff right!
But personally I think the most exciting thing about all of this is the announcement that to go with a return to Spider-Mans opening foray into the world of being a superhero there will be an entirely new super villain experiencing exactly the same feeling of ‘being new at this’.
"“Someone’s running around trying to be just like Spider-Man and there’s no way in Peter’s mind that he’s not responsible for everything that guy’s going to do,” said Slott of the Ditko-esque bad guy he would not name.“He’s got his first villain who is his own age, someone that he’s inspired” instead of clashing with The Vulture or Doctor Octopus or the Lizard, all of whom were adults and authority figures.“He’s a troubled teen hero fighting a troubled teen villain!” Slott said."
That’s right, we’re being treated to a completely new villain never before seen in the Spider-Man universe. This is incredilby exciting for me because I love me a Spider-Man villain, and I’m sure Sony will be keeping an eye out for this too considering they’re planning villain spin-off movies for their Spidey franchise.
Unfortunately you’ll have to wait until May to get your hands on this new series as that’s when the comics are slated for release, timed to coincide with the cinematic release of ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’. It’s going to be a big year for Spider-Man!
