The adventures of Spider-Man and Batkid – What really happened?

Perhaps even a bigger story than Ellen’s selfie or John Travolta’s now infamous Adele Dazeem was the mystery of Spider-Man’s non appearance. Andrew Garfield was supposed to be involved in a segment where he was to induct a new superhero into the fraternity of superheroes. However when the Oscars was all said and done Spider-Man was replaced by Captain America and there was no superhero induction, so what happened?
Well we now know that it was Batkid who was due to become a superhero but it didn’t happen. The rumours for why this segment didn’t happen began to circulate with the original theory being that Spider-Man himself called a halt on proceedings because he didn’t ‘like the lines he was given’. So essentially Garfield acted like a spoilt brat and took a fantastic moment away from a small kid that beat cancer.
Batkid’s real name is Miles Scott, when he isn’t galavanting around as his secret identity. He became Batkid after suvivng leukemia and becoming involved in one of the most elaborate Make-A-Wish’s ever when the city of San Francisco became Gotham city for one day and Scott got to fight crime alongside Bat-Man himself. Surely Garfield wouldn’t ruin this kid’s Oscar moment?
Well, actually no he wouldn’t. It turns out that whilst Garfield did have some input into his script he wasn’t the one that pulled the plug on the segment according to the actor’s representatives. TMZ reports “Garfield and Scott did the dress rehearsal Saturday without a hitch — it was a real tearjerker too — but hours later, Garfield was informed via email that the piece didn’t fit with the tone of the show … and therefore had to be cut.”
Garfield, who was reportedly crestfallen that the Oscars moment had been cut, agreed to accompany Batkid to Disney Land to make it up to him. The Spider-Man actor even threw a mini-Oscars ceremony in Miles’ hotel room.

The actors reps went on to say “The producers arranged for Miles and his family to visit Disneyland on Monday and Andrew drove down to visit them and to bring Miles a personal gift. Andrew did the right thing for Batkid and anyone saying otherwise is flat out lying.”
And thus ends the adventure of Spider-Man and Batkid right? Wrong. Actually, Batkid and Spider-Man are to cross paths again as Garfield further attempts to make things up to the young boy by inviting him to the New York premiere of Spider-Man 2 on April 24th.
