Fantastic Four Movie In Trouble? Fox Says No

facebooktwitterreddit

Well, here’s an interesting state of affairs. First, Bleeding Cool’s Rich Johnston posts a story quoting a “well-connected source” saying Fox is unhappy with everything about the Fantastic Four movie reboot: the director (Josh Trank), the script (by Simon Kinberg) and the cast. No word on whether the studio was okay with the catering folks or not.

Then Screen Crush jumps in with its own “high-level studio sources” who say the initial rumors were “not at all true” and that the movie will begin filming next month. CBR News actually got a Fox representative to deny the Bleeding Cool report, so that’s where the ping pong ball stops for now — though Johnston and company are sticking by their source.

It’s tough to read the tea leaves here, because even if Johnston’s source is correct, Fox isn’t going to (or shouldn’t, anyway) go on the record at this point. The company has a vested interest in making a Fantastic Four movie in the near future so the rights don’t revert to Marvel, and considering the last effort at doing films about the first family of super heroes was only moderately successful, it has to get it right this time.

If Fox got cold feet for some reason, we may not know for sure until the date to start shooting comes and goes with nothing happening or Trank officially gets replaced. We should find out soon, as the filming is supposed to start on April 21.
