Amazing Spider-Man #1 hits 500k pre-orders

Comic Book Resources are reporting that Marvel has exclusively revealed that the upcoming comic book Amazing Spider-Man #1 has reached approximately 500,000 in initial retailer pre-orders. However that’s not an exact figure and the numbers are subject to change leading up to the pre-order cut-off point.

If this figure is to be believed (which I’m pretty sure it is) then that would place the issue as the highest initially ordered individual issue in the last decade. It seems that people just can’t wait to see what happens following the conclusion of Superior Spider-Man and the return of the once-dead original Spider-Man Peter Parker.

Comic Book Resources report comments from storyline writer Dan Slott, “I’ve been working in comics for over half of my life, and I’ve never seen fans react as quickly, as crazily, or as passionately about anything I’ve been a part of more than they have with the death and return of Peter Parker,” the Amazing Spider-Man writer said. “Speaking for the creative team on ‘Big Time,’ ‘Superior,’ and the all-new ‘Amazing,’ seeing that level of passion has been one of the great rewards of this run.”

And it seems that everybody’s happy about it. “‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #1 is already close to becoming the best-selling direct market comic of the last decade and one of the best-selling of all time,” Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso said. Whilst Marvel senior vice president of sales and marketing David Gabriel added “”We’re thrilled that ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ #1 has exceeded our expectations on such a massive scale.”
