Did we already see Doctor Octopus in Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Dr Octopus

Those that have seen the Amazing Spider-Man 2 would have been delighted about all of the rather obvious nods of things to come in the future from Felicity Jones’ Felicia character, who will obviously become the Black Cat to the glimpses of Doc Ock’s arms and Vulture’s wings to BJ Novak’s Alistair Smythe the brilliant robotic engineer who will go on to develop Spider Slayers.

However a popular theory going around at the moment is that another character was quite heavily teased during the movie but no-one really noticed it at the time. Remember that awkwardly exaggerated scene with Electro in that chamber with Anton Csokas’ Dr. Kafka listening to music and apparently torturing Electro to get a rise out of him?

You do remember it? Good! Because people are saying that Kafka is being set up to play none other than second most infamous Spidey villain Doctor Octopus. Now regardless of canon, or Otto Octavius or anything from the comics there’s no denying that with retrospect not only was Kafka sadistic and cartoonish and villain-like, but he also bore more than a passing resemblance to the Doc Oc we know from the comics.

Kafka

See, when I look at that picture I can see it! He’s introduced with a close up of his big round tinted glasses which seemed like a big shouting hint  as Doctor Octopus is synonymous with them and then there’s no escaping that heavy Bavarian accent and all round eccentricity. All of these things are too similar to Doctor Octopus to be ignored especially when you consider they have been deliberately added to the character of Kafka, who in the comic books was originally a woman.

Sure, Kafka as Doc Oc would be a huge departure from what we know but Spider-Man producer Avi Arad has already hinted that all bets are off when it comes to the Sinister Six and then there are the rumours that one of the Sinister Six could be gender-swapped. It seems that Kafka being the tentacled super villain isn’t beyond the realm of possibility.
