Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane scenes will not be on Amazing Spider-Man 2 Blu-Ray

To be perfectly honest I don’t know why people thought there was a possibility that Shailene Woodley’s scenes would make it onto the deleted scenes released with the Amazing Spider-Man 2 DVD and Blu-Ray when it’s released. It really doesn’t make any sense.

First of all there are huge continuity issues if they show the scenes and then Shailene Woodley can’t appear again as MJ so the role has to be recast, or if Sony and Webb decided not to have MJ at all in the third film and then people are wondering ‘what happened to Peter Parker’s neighbour?’

Then of course there’s the artistic integrity. Webb took the scenes out because he thought they were entirely superfluous and instead of adding to the overall narrative they took away from it. Basically he thought they ruined the finished product and reduced the dramatic impact of the climax of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacey’s relatonship so why would he make them available to people to see?

But for those of you that did think there was a possibility we’d see Shailene’s scenes on the Blu-Ray and DVD deleted scenes it is Marc Webb himself that has put the kibosh on the idea when asked my MTV if we’d ever see Shailene Woodley’s scenes. The Amazing Spider-Man director replied ““I think we’ll just keep that, it’s so brief. It was just a couple of days, and we really wanted to focus on the Gwen Stacy storyline.”

If you really want to know about the scenes she was in then check out this description and a concept art picture of Spider-Man confronting Mary Jane’s dad. It’s nothing too exciting with MJ’s appearance being minimal at best. Probably along the same lines as Alistair Smythe and Felicia Hardy.

Webb goes on to add ““There’s a few scenes that’ll be on the DVD, but they’re not massive, earth-shattering scenes that change the story.” See, nothing massive or earth-shattering like the potential introduction of arguably the most important woman in Spider-Man’s life. Let’s be honest here guys Mary Jane Watson deserves a much better introduction into this cinematic universe than that!
