Rumor: Hulk In For Status Quo Change At The End Of Avengers: Age Of Ultron

Could the Hulk be in a predicament at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron that could lead to him partway toward one of his more famous recent stories from the comics?

More from Movies

That’s what Drew McWeeny of HitFix is claiming — and his guesses are informed ones, since he’s been to visit the movie’s set. Though he couldn’t talk about everything he saw, he did have some interesting news on what the Hulk might experience at the end of the film that could lead into something in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, whether that’s a Hulk solo film, the next Avengers movie or even a crossover with other characters who we’re about to see on the big screen.

Read on for details, but first …

WARNING! POTENTIAL AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON SPOILERS AHEAD!

Here’s what McWeeny says regarding the Hulk:

"Banner continues to play a key role in things in this movie, and when the final war with Ultron spills onto the battlefield and out of the virtual realm, he has a major part to play. Unfortunately, that ends with him onboard a Quin jet on his way off the planet, with no way to immediately turn things around. He’s going to have to ride out the trip. It’s pre-programmed and he can’t stop it.Here’s where I’d wager his spaceship is headed: wherever the Guardians of the Galaxy are located. If I was a betting man, I’d say there will be no Hulk solo film as part of Phase Three. Instead, Banner’s ship will take him to another planet, where he will end up meeting the Guardians and having an adventure with them."

Since Mark Ruffalo has already said he doesn’t think Planet Hulk could work as the basis of a Hulk solo tale, McWeeny further speculates that the scenario he outlines would allow Marvel to work in some facets of that story without going all the way there. In particular, it would send Hulk into space without having to introduce the Illumnati (since some of that team’s members, like Mr. Fantastic and either Professor X or Beast, aren’t available for Marvel to use in their movies anyway) or make Tony Stark look like more of a jerk than he’s already going to be for helping give life to Ultron.

The best part is that McWeeny’s theory also allows for the Guardians to have an excuse for getting back to Earth to deal with Thanos, which is a showdown most fans are assuming awaits in Avengers 3. Again, this is all speculation at this point, but given the way the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been so tightly connected thus far, it would not be a shock to see some of these educated guesses end up correct.
