SDCC 2014: Ant-Man Poster Revealed
By Steve Lam
Through Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios has revealed the Ant-Man poster they’ll be sharing with fans during Comic-Con International. According to reports, the illustration is from “a piece of pre-production concept art specifically for San Diego Comic-Con.”
I think the poster looks great. I couldn’t help but notice how similar the style is to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. It has a very retro feel and seems almost like a poster you’d see for the original Star Wars films. Why do I think this is a great poster? Well, for starters, posters for movies should entice people to want to actually see the film. Second, the artwork should tell a story or, at least, convey the theme of the movie it’s promoting. Here, we see Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) in the background and Ant-Man is in the foreground. This basically tells you that both are Ant-Man. With Hank Pym being further away, it’s almost telling the audience that Pym is mentoring the now active Lang. I hope to see more of these types of posters. Marvel Studios has certainly been knocking these out the park lately. And since they’re of a similar style, it definitely adds a cohesiveness to their cinematic universe.
Ant-Man is expected to be heavily promoted during Marvel Studios’ Comic-Con International panel on Saturday, July 26 at 5:30 PM PDT, where Marvel Studios President and Producer Kevin Feige will be presenting.
Ant-Man will star Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang. A target release date of July 17, 2015 has been set and it will be the inaugural movie for Phase 3 of The Marvel Cinematic Universe.
