Now we know what it is, thanks to the people at Comic Book Resources: a new Guardians of the Galaxy animated series, coming to Disney XD. As you can see in the image above, it looks like the characters will have slightly different looks compared to their movie counterparts, sticking a bit closer to their comic book versions. Also relevant: Groot appears to be re-growing, and is the size of a potted plant, complete with pot.
It’s a completely logical move on the part of Marvel, as the company is going all-in on the Guardians across every different form of media. We’ve seen one take on the Guardians in Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but the new show will aparently be set in the same animated continuity as Avengers Assemble, Hulk & the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. and Ultimate Spider-Man.
To that end, Marvel’s Eric Radomski said that all three series would feature guest shots from the Guardians to pave the way for their own show. Watch for more details on a premiere date in the wake of the movie, which comes out on August 1.
