IGN Interview with Gotham’s Penguin and Riddler
IGN just tweeted about an interview with Robin Lord Taylor and Cory Michael Smith, who play Penguin and Riddler respectively. Here is the first question from the interview:
"IGN TV: So when they came to you with the role of the Penguin, what ran through your mind?Robin Lord Taylor: Honestly, it was just an audition that I was submitted on by my agent, like any other pilot season, and it was a dummy side. So they didn’t give me any of the scripts. It was all fake names, a fake scene, all of that. But then, right before I went in, my agent was like, “By the way, it’s the Penguin.” And I was like…"

"IGN: “Why did you tell me that now?!”Taylor: I know! I was like, “All right,” but I was still like, “All right, I’m just going to focus on this scene, and I’m going to do this scene.” It was really, really well-written. I’ve auditioned for big things in the past, so I approach everything as like, “Well, this would be great. Whatever.” But this job was a little different in the sense that after the first audition, the response from the casting agents and then also how I felt about it was like, “That felt weirdly good. That felt different.” Like, that felt like a sure thing, you know?"

I am still very hopeful that Gotham will be all it is promising to be, and the reaction of IGN after the pilot is mostly positive. I think Robin Lord Taylor and Cory Michael Smith were both great choices for their roles and this interview is fascinating. I’m very much looking forward to the television premiere of Gotham and being able to review it myself for my readers.
