Holy Flashback Batman! Vintage Comic Reviews

facebooktwitterreddit

few old On my last trip to the comic shop I picked up a few vintage comics for a buck a piece I thought I’d review for Caped Crusades. This one is Robin #18 from 1995, with story by Chuck Dixon and art by Mike Parobeck and Stan Woch.

I’ve seen some silly villains in my time, but this Mouse King character Robin is facing in this comic is seriously ridiculous, seems like someone was a fan of the Nutcracker while growing up, enough to model his super villain persona after the Mouse King in it. I was right, the villain had an old Mouse King costume lying around from a college production of the Nutcracker. How have a been a Batman fan my entire life and lever heard of Police Commissioner Essen?! I just had to look her up, Sarah Essen, eventually Sarah Essen Gordon when she marries James years after his divorce from his first wife Barbara. Mr. Ollsworthy was an interesting red herring, though a pretty obvious red herring, at least from my point of view. All in all I’d say this was an interesting little side story, and really cool for me because it wasn’t in the middle of a story line that I had to figure out. Of Course I didn’t manage to figure out which Robin this was, all I know for sure is that it’s probably not Damian, but it could be Dick, Jason, or Tim. My guess is on Dick or Tim, but it’s just a feeling.
