When it comes to the largest comic conventions in the country, San Diego and New York head up the list. But it might be time to add a third one to that top tier of shows.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the Salt Lake Comic Con, which made its debut just last year, sold over 120,000 passes for this past week’s show at the Salt Palace Convention Center. That puts it in the discussion with Comic-Con International and New York Comic Con as the largest events of their type in the U.S.
Since I’ve never been to the show or the Salt Lake City area myself, it’s difficult for me to say what this level of success means, except maybe for this: comic conventions are now popular enough in general, and there are enough fans out there who want to experience panels, cosplay, pop culture guests and everything these shows bring with them, that organizers don’t need to hold them in New York or California to ensure huge turnouts.
Bam Smack Pow readers, if any of you were in attendance at Salt Lake Comic Con last week, drop us a comment or hit us up on Facebook and let everyone know how the show was and what the crowds were like.
